Calling All Boston Hawks Fans!

If you know me, then you know that I have been a fan of the Boston Hawks since January 2021. I have loved each book that has been released, and have eagerly anticipated all of them.

So today, I get to share with you the cover AND the teaser of The Trailblazer with you! And friends, The Trailblazer is a SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE! Just hand it over now! Seriously.

That is one gorgeous man on the cover! And can we talk about that teaser? Oooh, I am going to love this story, I can just tell.

Is it November 11th yet?

I always knew I’d marry my first everything, Declan Yaeger, the Southern boy with Irish roots. That was before he became my first heartbreak, a NHL superstar with a playboy reputation, I no longer recognize.

The summer he left our small, Tennessee town, to pursue his hockey dream is the summer my life changed. That was seven years ago, before he became a defenseman for the Boston Hawks. Before I became a hardened, desperate woman, trying to survive.

To protect my grandfather's legacy, I agree to marry my oldest childhood friend, Henry. But when I enter the Church on my wedding day, the grey eyes piercing mine aren’t my fiancés.

They belong to Declan, who shows up with an offer of his own. One I can’t refuse even though my heart knows better than to accept.

Will my marriage to Declan heal the broken between us? Or are we destined to repeat the mistakes of our past?

Boston Hawks News!

This morning, as I was writing my review for The Defender by Gina Azzi, I noticed a little something extra in the release packet from the PR company. There were THREE more books listed for the Boston Hawks series!

Do you see that?

AHHH I'm so excited! I thought that The Heart Chaser (coming September 23) was going to be the final book. Thank goodness I'm wrong, because I do not want this series to end. I am loving these characters, and their stories.

The Trailblazer

November 11, 2021

When I was in high school, I imagined walking down the aisle into the waiting arms of Declan Yaeger. Thankfully, I moved past that delusional thinking by college.

Except today is my wedding day and the deep grey eyes piercing mine when I enter the church aren’t my fiancé’s…

The Hustler

January 6, 2022

Meeting Theo Sims is a breath of fresh air. He’s an honest, down-to-earth, charismatic man who looks at me and not through me.

Except his name isn’t really Theo, it’s Eddie. He’s not really a teacher, but a professional hockey player. And like all the men who came before him, he played me for a fool.

The Score Keeper

March 3, 2022

Years ago, Scott Reland was my peer, an equal. Now, he’s the owner of the Boston Hawks and way above my pay grade.

He isn't still keeping score, but I am.

Are you as excited as I am? Tell me, if you've read The Boston Hawks series, which character couple has been your favorite?

The Defender {a review}

Friends, if you've been reading the Boston Hawks series by Gina Azzi, then chances are you've found yourself curious about James Ryan! Well it's time. It is time for his story to be told! The Defender is the fifth book in the Boston Hawks series, and trust me when I say to have the tissues on hand! I may have bawled like a baby a couple of times. Just putting that out there.

Oh how to recap this book without getting emotional...James Ryan has been playing for the Hawks for a while now, and these guys are his family. They supported him through the most difficult period of his life, and they've rallied around him as he learns how to be a single dad. The day his wife died was the worst day of his life, and a few years later he is still grieving. It's him and his kids against the world, and he fully believes he's not going to find love again. Or if he does, he will feel guilty because he loved his wife with everything he had. One night after a game, the team all heads out to their favorite bar. It is there that James sees Bella. He's never seen her before so she must be new. Leave it to Panda to make introductions. James recognizes something in Bella's face though. He sees the pain and heartache she is trying to mask because he too is trying to keep his mask in place. James is drawn to her, and at the end of the night these two find themselves talking. That then leads to a night together. When James awakes the next morning, Bella is no where to be found. Until a short period later when she shows up at his house. James didn't put two and two together when reading the information on the potential nanny. He just knows he needs someone he can trust with his kids while he's at work. When he answers the door and sees her standing there, he's shocked. She's shocked. And the two make the decision that should she accept this job, nothing will happen between them. It can't. She needs to focus on her healing, and on taking care of these two amazing kids.

This book my friends. THIS BOOK! I knew going in that this story would be emotional because I've "seen" little snippets of James's story being shared in the previous books. But that didn't prepare me for what was about to happen. While I briefly mentioned the fact that James is a widower, I didn't touch on what Bella has been through. I knew it had to be something pretty major considering that she has her therapist on speed dial, and the fact that she is running (literally and metaphorically). Trigger warning: There was divorce, there was abuse, there was the birth and death of Mason, her baby. And that my friends, is where I lost it. (and I feel the tears welling up as I type.) It's no wonder that Bella is running and that she has her therapist on stand by. This woman has been through so much, and that loss is still so fresh. The way her story was handled felt right. You could feel the pain, the heartache, and see her grieving. You could see how she longed for a family, and how she wanted to be a mom. Oh my heart. So when she and James started their friendship/companionship/relationship/what-have-you, it felt right. You could see these two bonding over the losses they've both experienced. You could see the compassion and the empathy that they have for each other.  While their story made me cry, I absolutely loved it. From the way things began, to how Bella cared for Mason and Milly, to the way James reacted about Mason, to the big dramatic moment, to the reconciliation, it was all so good. I think the only thing I would have liked more is if the other characters had more of an appearance in the book. Yes we saw James and Austin talking occasionally, and we saw Noah and Easton a little, but I guess I just expected a bit more. That is such a minor thing though that it doesn't even impact my opinion on the book. I loved it. I recommend it.

After reading The Defender, I think James may have pushed Torsten out of my #1 spot. I loved Torsten's story, but James and Bella, they have pulled on my heartstrings, and I don't think their story can be topped from the Boston Hawks series.

If you enjoy hockey romance, single dad romances, nanny romances, and/or forced proximity, then I hope you'll give The Defender a read. Just remember to have the tissues on hand because oofta, you'll need them. Also, I hope you don't consider what I shared about Bella to be a spoiler. I fully believe that what she experienced could be triggering for some, and so I feel that it is important for readers to be prepared. Especially if that is something they've experienced as well.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts,
Laura

As Boston's most eligible nanny, I'm nurturing, trustworthy, and professional. Until my one-night stand turns out to be my new boss.

Hawks defenseman James Ryan is Boston's most eligible single-dad. He's solemn, gorgeous, and an incredible father. But I'm drawn to him for other reasons.

James's eyes reflect the same grief and hurt I'm drowning in. His twins struggle with the same pain that once destroyed me. Living with the Ryan family and caring for James's twins are both a salve and a curse.

Soon, what made us click one summer night over whiskey is wreaking havoc on our commitment to remain professional. Our friendship blossoms into something more. Something searching, healing, and unbelievably complicated.

Falling in love with Milly and Mason Ryan is easy. Falling in love with their father is something I never saw coming.

If I give my heart to James, will he put it back together? Or will I end up more shattered than I already am?

***

The Defender is a deeply emotional, single dad romance, with sensitive subject matter.

The Rule Maker {a review}

I have loved the Boston Hawks series by Gina Azzi since it debuted back in January. I can't lie. I have fallen for this group, and I have fallen hard.  So when I heard that The Rule Maker was going to be Austin's story? Well I was all in. Then when I learned that it is a friends to lovers story? That just made it even better.

Now if you're not familiar with the Boston Hawks, it is a sports romance series, and our heroes are professional hockey players.  The heroines are all pretty fantastic in their own right, are intelligent, talented, and are the perfect fit for the guys.

In The Rule Maker we have Austin who is the captain of the Hawks, and feels as though he always has to be in control. He has the world on his shoulders, and it's becoming a lot of pressure for him. As we learn it all stems from an event that happened in college, and that event still drives him to this day. Then there is Chloe. She and Austin were childhood friends, and were constantly together. That is until her family moved to New York. That is when their friendship fizzled. Chloe has recently had her heartbroken by her ex-fiancee, and she now finds herself moving back in with her parents for the summer. Oh, and her parents have recently moved back to the Boston area, and are excited to meet up with the Merricks once again. When Austin opens the door to the house, Chloe is immediately taken aback. She cannot take her eyes off the man standing in front of her. Even though her heart is still healing, Austin has woken a part of her that had been shut off these last few months. After a discussion around a bonfire, these friends come up with a plan to be each others plus ones to summer events. From this point on, their relationship begins to change.

You really should not be surprised when I say that I LOVED this book. I've loved the entire series thus far, and I knew Austin's story would not disappoint. Chloe is an intelligent woman who has always known what she wants in life. It's just that her ex has messed with her brain, and now she has doubts. What she does know is that she loves her job as a crossword puzzle writer. She gets to use her brain, and can work from anywhere. I absolutely love that Gina Azzi keeps writing in these strong, intelligent female characters, and that they keep their smarts about them throughout their relationship. I really enjoyed the friends to lovers storyline, and liked all the history that these two share. Add in the fact that their families are friends, just makes it all the better. I liked how Austin stepped in and said he would be Chloe's plus one to the engagement party, and how it stunned all of the attendees. That was awesome. I was so glad when Austin finally opened up to Chloe about what haunts him, and how that event has shaped his life. The dramatic moment felt appropriate, and I like how it dragged out a little bit. It has Austin a bit stirred up, and it was nice to see him fretting about. All in all, I loved the story. I loved the setup for the next book, and I have to say I was caught off guard when it was said that James was getting his story next rather than Panda (Luca). I don't know what I'll do when the Boston Hawks series is over. I can only hope that Gina Azzi has a spin-off in the works.

You already know I'm going to say that I highly recommend The Rule Maker, and all of the Boston Hawks books, so don't even pretend you're surprised by that. If you are a fan of hockey romance, then grab the series. If you're a fan of friends to lovers, grab The Rule Maker. Just trust me, it's worth it.

Thank you for reading my thoughts,
Laura

NHL Boston Hawks captain Austin Merrick used to be my boy-next-door. Now, he’s the man on my mind.

Our paths haven’t crossed in over a decade when I find myself back in Boston, desperate to save face in front of my ex-fiancé. With a devilish smirk and wicked blue eyes, Austin steps back into my life to be my plus one for a summer filled with weddings and events.

Should be fun and effortless, right?

Then why the need for rules?

And why do I crave his touch at the small of my back and wish for his kiss on a moonlit beach?

Suddenly, things begin to feel complicated, messy, and real. When I look at my first friend, I don’t see the boy-next-door, but the man I want to spend forever with.

If Austin learns the depth of my feelings, will he give us a real chance? Or are some rules better left unbroken?

The Faker {a review}

Back in January I was scrolling through Instagram, and noticed a post about a new hockey romance series. To say I was intrigued would be an understatement. I immediately found myself on Amazon, and soon had the first three books in the series ordered.

That series was The Boston Hawks by Gina Azzi. I read The Sweet Talker, and was captivated. Then The Risk Taker came out, and and I fell further for these characters. Well now, now it's time for The Faker. Now I get Torsten and Rielle's story. Torsten grabbed my attention back in The Sweet Talker, and I couldn't get him off my mind. Rielle has been there since the beginning as well, but we didn't see a ton of her. Obviously in The Faker, it's all about these two.

I absolutely loved The Faker. From the beginning to the end, I did not want to put it down. There was a time, at the beginning of the book, where I was cringing (and literally saying eww no). Everything that happened after that altercation had me saying 'more please'. Torsten and Rielle are amazing together. The chemistry between them is undeniable. Should we talk about the steam? Oh friends, it is STEAMY.

A little over midway through the book, I found myself wanting to throttle Torsten and Rielle. Oh they were frustrating me. But in the end it was worth it. It just was.

Oh and yes, I totally had tears running down my cheeks a few times. I can't help it, I am an emotional person, and the feelings just hit hard sometimes. I won't tell you which scenes hit me, but there were a few. And that's all I will say about that.

If age gap romances are your thing, then read The Faker! (He's 37, she's 24)
If marriage of convenience is your trope, then read The Faker!
If millionaire/billionaire romances are your thing, then read The Faker!
Obviously if sports romance is a favorite, then read The Boston Hawks series.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts,

Please keep scrolling for a teaser of The Faker, an excerpt from the books, as well as links to add the series to your Goodreads and/or purchase the books.

BLURB

NHL hotshot Torsten Hansen is a lot of things. My husband shouldn't be one of them.

One emotional night slinging tequila shots and singing karaoke with the Hawks defenseman turns into more than I bargained for. A wicked hangover, an eviction notice, and a marriage proposal.

If Torsten and I wed, he can fulfill a promise to his grandmother and the debt I'm drowning in will be paid by his trust fund. It's a win-win, an easy and straightforward arrangement between friends.

So what if my friend has piercing blue eyes, a sensual smirk, and a body that occupies my dreams? It shouldn't matter that Torsten understands my past and makes me feel safe.

Except it does. Because if I give my heart to my husband, how will I survive our eventual divorce?

EXCERPT

I walk beside her, wondering if I’ve lost my damn mind.
What the hell was I thinking? Did I seriously just propose marriage to a woman I’ve spent a total of fifteen hours with, in group settings, over blueberry pancakes?
Yes, yes I did.
We’re quiet as we walk, both of us lost in our thoughts. Except mine swing from angry to needy to frustrated. I hate that Rielle questioned our friendship, as if I don’t give a shit about her. I know we aren’t close and don’t really know each other but does she seriously think I treat her the same way I treat puck bunnies? Her accusation stung and it shouldn’t have because it’s the perception I’ve spent years cultivating.
I just don’t like that it worked on her.
Then, there’s the fact that she’s obviously in some kind of trouble. Four hundred and seventy thousand dollars? Really? That’s not normal credit card or student loan debt. That’s serious, life-altering, damaging debt. Is someone trying to shake her down? Is that why she has bruises on her arm?
Jesus. I scrape a hand over my face, glancing at Rielle from the corner of my eye. She keeps her head straight ahead, her footsteps even, her shoulders pulled back. I couldn’t get a read on her if I was a fucking mind reader.
But marriage? No, I didn’t propose marriage. I proposed something different. A transaction. And she knows it.
