Wild About You by Rebecca Jenshak {a review}

Wild About You by Rebecca Jenshak is now available! This is the second book in the Wildcat hockey series, and I'm in love. If you're looking for a second chance romance, or like books that kind of have the nanny/single dad romance happening, then you need to check this one out. Now I say kind of on the nanny/single dad romance as Tyler is taking care of his younger sister (16/17), and Piper is helping out. I hope that made sense.

That being said, I freaking love this series!

Tyler and Piper were amazing together. I completely understand why Tyler did what he did all those years ago. Should he have had the conversation with Piper? Well yeah, he should have. But he was young.

Tyler loves his family and friends. His friends have stepped up in his life, and are doing what they can to help him out. Everly has created quite the bond with the guys as well. She may have shook up her brother's life, but she has found a safe place to land.

Piper is pretty amazing as well. The last four years haven't been easy for her, but she's pushing through. She's about to finished her undergrad, and is going to be a teacher! Piper knew that Tyler was in Minnesota, but she had no plans on seeing him. Until it happened, and then everything came rushing back.

I loved these two together. These two knew at a young age that they were meant to be. Call it first love, call it soul mates, no matter what these two are amazing together.

Everly has caught my attention, and I am finding myself wondering if she'll end up with one of the Wildcats. Then there's Jack who continues to pull me in. I don't know who the next book, Wild Ever After, is going to focus on, but I need to know now!!

Love the series. Love the characters. Am obsessed with the setting because it's in my home state.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts. If you are a fan of hockey romances, then please give this one a read. I think you'll fall for the characters in an instant.

Happy Reading,
Laura

Wild About You by Rebecca Jenshak is now live!

A month ago, I was a rookie with the best stats in the league. I was traveling the world, playing hockey, and making more money than I ever dreamed.

Then my sister showed up on my doorstep with nowhere else to go.

I don’t know the first thing about being responsible for a troubled teen, and the team jet isn’t exactly kid-friendly.

Enter Piper. My sister’s new teacher and nanny.

Smart, nurturing, and just as beautiful as I remember.

I fell in love with her four years ago and never stopped.

Too bad she hates my guts.

We need her.

And this time, I’m not letting her go.

Hot Shot's Mistake by Gina Azzi {a review}

It's the day I've been waiting for since the Boston Hawks series ended! Today the first book in the Tennessee Thunderbolts series is released! That's right, Hot Shot's Mistake is officially available. If you've been missing Gina Azzi's hockey romances, then run to your favorite book retailer and grab it. You're going to enjoy Mila and Devon's story.

So if you read The Score Keeper, you know who bought the Tennessee Thunderbolts organization. You also know who is the coach, and we see the coach appear a few times within Hot Shot's Mistake. I love that tie back to the Hawks. The only way this book could have been better is if it was a Hawks player who had been traded to the Thunderbolts. But Devon was a good starting point too. There is no real need for me to recap this book, as the teaser does an excellent job. So let's dive into my thoughts.

I have been so excited for this series to begin, and immediately dove into Hot Shot's Mistake. Mila and Devon's story was so good! I did not want to put the book down, and when the story ended I definitely wanted more of them, as well as the team. So that's a good thing since this was the first book in the series.

Devon has a chip on his shoulder, and is not thrilled to be in Tennessee. First chance he gets, he's out. Devon's goal is to get back to New York, or even California. He just does not want to be here, and his attitude shows it. Getting out is his plan until he meets Mila.

Mila is healing from heartache. She's grieving not only the loss of her parents, but the loss of the relationship she had, and the job that she loved. She has lost so much. Especially since that relationship loss, and job loss also had her losing close friendships. This new opportunity with the Thunderbolts is just what she needs to restart. Here with this organization, she can focus on her work, and show the higher ups that she's a perfect fit. Never was she expecting to fall for Devon.

Their road to their happily ever after was not an easy one. It was filled with drama, heartache, and outside noise. But in the end everything worked out just the way it was supposed to.

I did find myself confused by the uneasy feeling between the football team and the hockey team. That just felt weird. You would think that there wouldn't be that rivalry. Especially since they play different professional sports. I mean a state can have (and often does) multiple professional sports, and be able to support them all through the good and the bad. But what do I know...

All in all this was a good start to the new team. I will say that as much as I enjoyed Devon and Mila's story, I was more intrigued by Axel. From the moment he was introduced in the story, he grabbed my attention, and did not let go. Thank goodness his story, Brawler’s Weakness, is next! Oh, and there's Axel's daughter...my gut tells me she's going to wind up with one of Axel's teammates, and that it is going to be drama filled. I'm here for it.

Bring on the Thunderbolts!

Thank you for taking the time to read my random thoughts on Hot Shot's Mistake. I am hooked on Gina Azzi's hockey romances, and for good reason. So many amazing tropes are covered in these books, and I find myself wanting to escape into these worlds often to reconnect with these fictional friends. Go pick up Hot Shot's Mistake. Also, if you're looking for another hockey romance where the player fall for the physical therapist, check out Boarding by Elise Faber!

Happy Reading,
Laura

Tangling up with my new physical therapist, Mila Lewis, is a mistake. One I can’t seem to stop making.

When I sign with the Tennessee Thunderbolts, I have two goals: prove my injury hasn’t benched my career and get back to New York.

But then, I meet Mila, the enigmatic therapist tasked with rehabbing my shoulder.

With her long ponytail, professional demeanor, and girl-next-door look, Mila is nothing like my usual type.

She’s better—a good girl with sad eyes and a tragic past our small-town loves to dissect.

With the entire town up in her business, our budding connection is far from simple. I’m not staying, and Mila will never leave.

Deep down, I know I should walk away and let her find the happily-ever-after she deserves.

But I can’t. Not without showing her that it could be me.

And that may be the biggest mistake of all.

Brawler's Weakness by Gina Azzi {cover reveal}

Gina Azzi has just revealed the cover for Brawler's Weakness!

This is the second book in the Tennessee Thunderbolts series, and I don't think you're ready! We get a sneak peak at these two in Hot Shot's Mistake, and you can already tell they are going to be an AMAZING couple!

Having read Hot Shot's Mistake, I know that this is going to be an age gap romance! I am so ready to get my hands on this book, and find out everything that goes down between Maisy and Axel.

Mark July 7th on  your calendar, because that is when the book will be released.

There’s only one woman I truly care about: my daughter. Until Maisy Stratford flounces into the front office of the Tennessee Thunderbolts with a heartfelt smile and a tray of baked goods.

As the Bolts’ newest hire, Maisy is optimistic, enthusiastic, and a goddess at manifestation.

Everything I’m not.

Known as Brawler, I’m a gruff, quiet, rough-around-the-edges, NHL defenseman. I haven’t dated in decades. I’ve never been married and my daughter’s a twenty-one-year-old mischief maker. I don’t know how to talk about feelings or place my trust in the hands of a woman. Even one with a heart of gold.

With my daughter Lola egging me on, I finally ask Maisy out.

But I don’t want to be her rebound; I want to be her forever. Even if I don’t know how to tell her that. Even if she’s not ready for me.

If I’m being honest, I’m not ready for her either.

The Scorecard by Maren Moore {a review}

The Scorecard by Maren Moore is officially available! Friends, this book is quite possibly my favorite in the Totally Pucked series. Or really I should say of all the hockey romances that I've read from Maren Moore. Graham and Emery have captured my attention. I cannot wait for you to all pick up this book and give it a read. Just know that it does end in a cliffhanger, so you're not going to get your HEA right away. Rumor has it that The Final Score will be out at the end of May, but that's not concrete right now.

The Scorecard started off with Emery having a girls night at her brother's house. As the girls were talking, the conversation naturally turned toward hockey players. This had the girls creating a list, a scorecard if you will, of a few players. That list was supposed to be thrown away, after all it was just made in fun. Yet when Graham showed up to the house, he happened to find it. He saw his name in 5th place, and that didn't sit right with him. Graham also doesn't understand why Emery seems to hate him so much. It's been bugging him for a while now. Especially as his attraction to her grows. Not that he can do anything about that though, it's his best friend's little sister after all. Things quickly take a turn after a night out. This hate to love relationship has just entered a new phase. Lives are about to change. Feelings are about to shift. A future together is a definite possibility. But it could be all thrown out the window with the news that is about to drop.

Let's dive into my thoughts...

4.5 stars my friends. That is what I rated The Scorecard over on Goodreads. Freaking obsessed with this couple!

The Scorecard grabbed my attention immediately partly because it's Graham's story, but also because it's the brother's best friend trope. Which if you know me at all, you know I absolutely love that trope. This is also a hate to love story (some could consider it enemies to lovers, but I don't), a forced proximity romance, a fake relationship relationship, and it also has a surprise pregnancy! Oof that's a lot.

We find out early on why Emery has issues with Graham, and it makes complete sense. I don't blame her one bit, I would be irritated with him as well. But all it takes is that one night to change it all. Yes the "hate" is still there, but it's starting to lessen. As Emery gets to know Graham though, that hate is definitely turning toward love.

Loved getting to meet Graham's mom and sister. The Tennessee scenes were some of my favorites. Being in Tennessee allowed us to get to know Graham a lot more, and see him be a bit vulnerable. This also affected Emery's way of viewing Graham. She was able to see this side of him that he doesn't show to others. It shows what a family man he is, and where his passions off the ice lay. He's sharing what he sees as a piece of his future with the woman he loves.

For those who are not familiar with Emery, she's a new lawyer. It's taken a lot of hard work and dedication to get where she is. At her job, her boss tapped her to work on an extremely important case. I found myself a bit confused about all of this as we had no information about it. We knew the client name, and we were able to briefly meet them, but that was it. I have questions regarding that. I'm not sure how that is going to tie into the storyline between Emery and Graham. I'm guessing that will be revealed in part 2.

Then there is the fact that the "scorecard" from the beginning was not really referenced much throughout the book. To be honest, this is part of what held me back from giving the full 5 stars. I thought we would see Graham working his magic to move up the list, and him showing Emery why he deserves that top spot vs one of his teammates. So that was a bit of a let down.

Oh, and I want to mention the pregnancy because this is the second thing that affected my rating. Now it's not the fact that Emery is pregnant. That doesn't matter in the grand scheme of things. It's the timeline of her pregnancy. We know that Graham is the dad. We know that. I trust that. But knowing what else we know about OTHER characters who are also pregnant, Emery had to deliver prematurely. Yet that was not mentioned. That pregnancy timeline for Emery, Graham, and the other characters just wasn't flushed out properly. There was info that didn't line up. Am I looking too deeply into this? Quite possibly. But as someone who has given birth four times, I know a few things. So that just irritated me. Sorry.

I'm able to look past those couple of "issues", and I still feel 100% confident in my 4.5 star rating. I loved the book. I loved the characters. I am now counting down the days to The Final Score so that I can find out what happens next in their story. Because the tidbit at the end had my jaw dropping.

Cannot wait to see how Maren wraps up Emery and Graham's story, and to see what happens next for our characters from the Totally Pucked world.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts on The Scorecard. I hope you'll pick this one up, and fall for the characters the way I have. Truly this is my favorite of the series.

Happy Reading,
Laura

Pretending to be married to my brother’s best friend and my biggest enemy is the last thing I imagined I’d be doing.

But there was a thin line between lust and hate, and when I fell into bed with the NHL’s rookie playboy, I found out just how easy that line got blurred.

We were enemies with benefits, but then two pink lines changed it all.

Now he was bringing me back home to his family’s farm and faking it became real… in more ways than one.

He was meant to be the enemy but falling for him meant letting him win.

The Scorecard
Graham: 1
Me: 0

**The Scorecard is book 1 of the duet and is approximately 60,000 words. This book does end on a cliffhanger.

Second Shot with #76 by Piper Rayne {a review}

Happy Book Release Day to Piper Rayne! Second Shot with #76 is officially available. This is the 5th book in the Hockey Hotties series, and if second chance romances are your jam, go grab this one.

After reading Sneaking Around With #34 I was really curious about Cory and Ande's past. I had not read Tropical Hat Trick, so I didn't know what happened that week. Now though I at least have a general idea, and I will be going back to read that novella.

Witnessing these two go through everything they did to get to their happily ever after was an interesting ride. Especially that situation with York. Everything with York did not sit well with me, and she was definitely the villain in my mind.

I loved the connection that Ande and Cory had. How after that time together on the vacation, they both couldn't stop thinking about the other. Then reconnecting in Florida was just so good!

Piper Rayne has created a wonderful hockey romance series, and I am loving all the characters. I am looking forward to Offside with #55 when that releases! It is my hope that Piper Rayne continues writing hockey romance. Whether that's with the Fury or another team I just want more!

Hockey romance + second chance romance + a villain you'll love to hate = one fabulous read!

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts on Second Shot with #76. I do hope you'll go pick up a copy.

Laura

My mom always said you don't get a second shot at making a first impression. I've remembered that my entire career. Especially since I'm one of the few black men who play professional hockey.

I'm calculated and respectful in the way I speak to my coaches, the owners, and the media. I've never taken a risk... until her.

I could blame it on the fact that for once I pushed away the pressure of my career for the ocean waves, the sand, and good times with my new teammates. But those are excuses because the minute I saw her at the airport, something lit up inside me and the best week of my life was spent with her in my bed.

After our week in paradise, we said goodbye, exchanged phone numbers and both assumed that unless one of us was flying through the other's city on the opposite side of the country, our vacation fling was over.

Then one night after practice I see her. She's here. In my city. Telling me she moved here for a job. If that's not fate tell me what is.

I've never wanted a second shot more than I do this time, but she's determined to leave what we were on the island we left behind.

Only One Forever by Natasha Madison {a review}

From Wall Street Journal and USA TODAY bestselling author Natasha Madison comes a brand new stand-alone sports romance. Only One Forever is the eighth installment of the Only One Series. This is a spin-off from the Something So Series and This is Series.

Only One Forever is the story that the fandom has been eagerly anticipating. The story of Dylan Stone and Alex Horton has been building for a while now, and everything is about to be laid out on the line. Hearts are going to bared, emotions are going to be elevated, and this has the potential to blow up the family. This book is a slow burn. It is best friends to lovers. It could be considered a forbidden romance due to the family connection. Ultimately though it is a story of soul mates. These two found their other half early on, and it's time to set the stage for a forever type of love.

FIVE STARS! Five glorious stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

How to talk about this book....

If you did not read This Is Forever, then you may not be familiar with Dylan Stone. Actually back in that book, his last name wasn't Stone. In This Is Forever, Dylan was a young child who loved hockey, but didn't have the best financial situation. He and his mom were struggling to pay the bills, but Caroline was doing everything she could for her child. It was when she met Justin Stone that everything changed. Caroline's relationship with Justin is what has us here today. Why do I tell you that? It's important to the story. It explains why Only One Forever could be considered a forbidden romance.

Alex Horton is the daughter of Max and Allison. Their love story is told in Something So Irresistible. Alex has always been one to push the boundaries, but she's also struggled with finding where she fits in. It took her moving to Dallas, and starting to work for Wilson, to begin to feel settled. She was getting into a groove, and feeling confident in her abilities. I honestly love Alex. She is open. She's not afraid to speak up. She's sarcastic. She's funny as all get out. Alex also wears her heart on her sleeve.

Then there is Dylan. He's currently playing hockey up in Montreal, but lately something's been off. He can't quite put his finger on it. All he knows is that he is missing his best friend, Alex. A quick trip to visit her in Dallas is just what he needs. The fact that the annual family vacation is about to happen is just a bonus. While Dylan is in Dallas, he also takes the opportunity to meet with Nico. Better known as the owner of the Dallas Oilers. Dylan is putting feelers out there about maybe not resigning with Montreal, so it just makes sense. Dylan is an amazing character as well. He is a person you can trust. He is a safe spot to land. He knows what it is like to go without, and he would so anything for anyone.

Since I've read ALL the books in Natasha Madison's multiple hockey series, I know how these stories always go down. Only One Forever was familiar, with just that twist of difference to it. Witnessing the interactions that Alex and Dylan have had over the course of other stories has shown how deep of a connection they have. Yes, it could be contributed to a family bond, but it's different. They are each other's person. They are each other's confidant. They can tell each other anything. They are there for each other in the good times, the emotional times, and any other time they are needed. They truly are two halves of a whole finding each other. I love it.

I wasn't expecting this book to be a slow burn. Yet it makes sense. How do you tell your best friend, and sort of cousin, that you are in love with them? How do you lay all that out there? What if they don't reciprocate? No matter how they respond, how do you tell the family?

When feelings were finally revealed, that breath I was holding did not release. I was waiting for the implosion from the guys. I knew that at least one of them would not take the news well. And honestly, the person who didn't react well, surprised me. My heart was starting to shatter. Fast forward just a little bit, and the words that were spoken after all of that, grabbed hold of my heart, and had me loving this entire family even more. Words of truth were spoken. Words of love. Words of affirmation. Words that not only build up Dylan and Alex, but also just speak for who the Grant/Stone/Horton/etc family is. Now of course before those positive words were spoken, there was a lot of dialogue that had tears falling. Our characters were so vulnerable. They just wanted their love recognized, and accepted by those they hold most dear.

This love story between Alex and Dylan wasn't the only storyline happening though. There was a storyline going that tied very closely to Dylan's childhood. Alex was introduced to this character through her work at Wilson's hockey camp. When Maddox was dropped off for camp, and Natasha Madison described everything, my mind flew to Dylan and Caroline. While the stories are comparable on multiple levels, Maddox's story hit me much harder. Which once you read it, you'll understand. I also had a gut feeling of what would happen next, and I am so glad that my gut was correct. Of course getting to that point was not easy by any means. Naturally there had to be dramatic moments that had me gasp, and worry to build. That's something I love about the stories Natasha Madison writes though. She takes you through the wringer. You feel all the feels. It's really quite glorious. Even if I do cry through many scenes in her books.

Oh this story! These characters! I love it all. If I could befriend fictional characters, it would be the group from these three series. They have grabbed hold of my heart, and I don't want to let them go. Now if you don't know, Only One Forever is the last book in this series. So I should be sad that this is over. Yet I know what the author has said. There is another spinoff in the works! We've already met the characters for that first book. We know how they met. We've witnessed the chemistry. What happens next for them? Save the date for December 27, 2022 when Made for Me releases!

Reader friends, I do hope you'll pick up Only One Forever. Well really I hope you pick up all the hockey books from Natasha Madison. While the stories don't have to be read in order, I think you get the best experience by doing so. Go fall for these characters. They are dear to me, and I hope they'll become favorites of yours as well.

May I suggest a few songs to listen to while you read? Fine Line by Harry Styles, Habit by Louis Tomlinson, Always You by Louis Tomlinson, Still by Niall Horan, Everywhere by Niall Horan, Black & White by Niall Horan, and Till Forever Falls Apart by Ashe and Finneas.

Thank you for taking time to read my long winded thoughts on Only One Forever. As I've said, I adore this series, as well as the two that came before it. I think for my birthday I'm going to start investing in the paperback copies of all of these books. Please go pick up this slow burn, forbidden, best friends to lovers, soul mates romance. Cover to cover I was thoroughly invested. Just have the tissues close by for certain scenes.

Laura

PS: Do you feel like you need a family tree for all of this? Well Natasha Madison has one on her website!

Dylan

My dreams came true when I was adopted at ten.

I was the best on the ice. Living the life of what every kid dreams of.

We’ve been best friends since then. Even when she was the annoying little sister following us around.

I would do anything for her.

It is another family vacation; except this time it feels different. Everything feels different.

Alex

All my memories have Dylan in them. From the first time I fell off my bike, to the time I got my heart broken for the first time.

He’s always been my protector, but it’s time to let the dream of being his go.

One last family trip, one last goodbye.

Except fate steps in and has other plans.

At the end of the day, you only get one forever.

Chase

Everyone expected me to play hockey.

I was good at it, but I was better at being a doctor.

So I hung up the skates and joined Doctors without Borders

But there is no place like home, so now I’m back.

And instead of being on the ice, I’m behind the bench as the team physician.

After years of playing cat and mouse, it’s time to admit it.

She’s mine.

Julia

Working as a social worker was a dream come true.

It wasn’t easy, and it has made me shut off my heart to love.

No commitment. No strings. No promises.

Until one fateful night changed everything.

He was there for me like no other one.

The biggest thing is I let him.

Maybe he was just made for me!
