Notes on Love by Naaz Spencer {a review}

Notes on Love is the first book by Naaz Spencer, and it is NOW AVAILABLE!
For those who do not know, Naaz Spencer is the pen name of author Zavi James. Zavi typically writes darker romance, whereas Naaz will be a bit more rom-com/traditional romance. Notes on Love is the first book in the Seven Deadly Sinclairs series, and features the story between Seth Sinclair and Kiran Jafri.

I am all for a good workplace romance, and this one was decent. I liked the concept for the book, and Kiran definitely intrigued me. Kiran has been through so much in her life, and she's worked hard to get to where she is. From becoming a single mother five years ago after the loss of her husband, to starting her own business, and relocating to London, she's giving it her all. Then there is Seth. His fiancee broke up with him, and that caused Seth to escape for the last six months. Now though he's back at his family's company, and is ready to resume his life. Except there's a new person at the company, and he can just tell she's going to shake things up. But how much? What impact will this have on his life?

One thing I wish I had known, before picking up this book, was that Notes on Love is a slow burn. An extreme slow burn at that. For me it was almost over done. It's not even that it's a slow burn, I can deal with that (even if I don't prefer it), but it was that I didn't feel the connection between Seth and Kiran. So here I am reading this romance, but not feeling it. I am not wowed by their relationship, nor was I really all that curious about what their moment of conflict would be. (which, it was what I expected.) So that was a bit of a bummer for me.

I was confused by the Sinclair family though. Are they famous? Why does the paparazzi care about who they are? Why was Seth's breakup with Anna such major news? I need more of a backstory on the family so I can better understand. I mean it's obvious that they are well off financially since Seth was able to just travel for half a year.

Now don't get me wrong, the story was decent. The side characters captured my attention, and have me a bit fascinated. I enjoyed the connection that Seth had with Maaz and Shah. That warmed my heart a bit. Once that trust was established, that bond grew.  Oh, and Kiran was more interesting than Seth.

Notes on Love is a solid 3 star read for me. Will I continue with the series? I don't know right now. Maybe if Aiden or Noah were to be the next story released. But honestly I'm not 100% certain that this series is for me.

Do I recommend it? Always. A rating is subjective and personalized. No one person is going to have the same feelings or thoughts regarding a book. That's the joy of reading, and talking about books.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts about Notes on Love. If you've read it, or plan on reading it, I'd love to talk about it with you to get your takeaway.

Seth
Six months away, nursing heartbreak, and my father plucks a ray of sunshine from the sky and puts her in the office opposite mine.

Kiran Jafri is the one thing I hate - happy.

She’s an explosion of colour in one gorgeous package and I should stay away.

But Kiran’s warmth is all I’ve ever craved and avoiding her isn’t an option.

The more I learn about her, the more complicated it gets.

I’ll figure out a way to prove this is worth it.

Moving to London is a fresh start.

New office. A personal assistant. And a stunning boss who is missing a heart in his chest.

Seth Sinclair is the office grump and fate seems to throw us together.

No matter how hard I try, I can’t stay away.

He’s something I want when I definitely shouldn’t.

It’s too complicated and I can’t trust myself not to mess up.

But Seth’s reminding me of one thing I thought I lost - hope.

Is it really possible for me to have it all?
