What book series just had a name change?

April Canavan just announced that the Birch Police Department series is getting a name change! It will now be known as Birch County Heroes! April  has said that the content in the books will not changed, it’s simply a rebranding.

So I'll be going back to my posts to update the labels! Don't worry, I'll keep the BPD label as well since that is what the series was originally known as.

Also, I highly recommend the Birch Police Department series. You should definitely go read it.

King's Queen {a review}

Do you ever start reading a book and think "gee this sounds familiar"? Because that's what happened to me with King's Queen by Marie Johnson. King's Queen is the fifth book in the Oil Kings series, and it just released on August 16.

King's Queen is about Aiden and Kate King. They have been married for a little bit now, but really it's more of a marriage by name, and not an actual marriage. Aiden spends more time at the office than at home, and wants nothing to do with Kate. Or so it seems. In this book, Kate learns about the rules that were put in place for Aiden to gain access to his trust fund. To say she is hurt is an understatement. It also explains why Aiden is acting the way he is. The logical part of Kate's brain says she has to divorce him. But her heart, that is saying otherwise. Can these two repair their relationship and save their marriage? Can Aiden work a bit less to have some time with his wife? Or are these two destined to separate?

Oh friends, King's Queen tugged on my heartstrings. This book hit me in the feels, and I went through a variety of emotions as I was reading. Kate and Aiden have been through so much. Aiden has changed and become this workaholic because he thinks it is what is expected of him. I was so proud of Aiden when he told his dad everything. When he revealed the heartache and pain he was dealing with because of the hours he had to put in. When he stood up to his grandma and said enough is enough. Just yes! I love that both Aiden and Kate were fighting for their marriage. NO it wasn't perfect. YES they had issues to work on. And yes, at times it felt like it was more one sided. But the heart wants what the heart wants. I loved the characters. Loved the setting. Loved the story. I don't read a lot of marriage on the rocks books, but the few I have always draw me in, and hold me captive.

Highly suggest you check out this book, and the entire series. I think you'll fall for these characters. I know I did.

Thank you for reading my thoughts,
Laura

BLURB

When Aiden King asked me out four years ago, I went from mousy librarian to wife of the most wanted bachelor in Montana in four months flat. No longer the nerdy girl from the wrong side of the tracks, I was a CEO’s wife in a mansion by the river—and my husband was the man of my dreams. I almost couldn’t believe my good fortune.

Turns out, I shouldn’t have believed it. After years of rattling around that mansion alone while Aiden put in long hours at the office, I learned his secret: he’d needed to marry someone, anyone, to fulfill his trust requirements, and the nerdy girl from the wrong side of the tracks had been an easy target.

I never thought I’d be the girl asking a handsome millionaire for a divorce. Now, my pride and I just want to limp back to my family and start over. But to do that, I’ll have to swallow one question. If the trust only required him to be married for a year, why has it been four years since we said I do?

EXCERPT

“Can I get a room for the next three nights?” Preferably as close to Kate as possible? I glanced up. Seven levels. What were the odds I’d land on the same floor?
“I’m so sorry, sir. We don’t have any vacancies.”
None? It was December. A slow month for conferences and sporting events. Ah. “Construction?”
Her smile was sympathetic. “I’m sorry. I can help you find a room in a hotel nearby.”
I hadn’t expected to spend a lot of time with Kate while she was at her convention, but I’d at least hoped to be under the same roof. The roof might house a few hundred rooms, but I’d remained optimistic.
Kate’s attention was on us. “No opening?”
I tucked my wallet back into my slacks. “No problem. I’ll talk with Luna about the bedroom.” Could I use it when the plane wasn’t in use? I didn’t care to sit in another hotel.
“On the plane?” Kate glanced at the young man helping her, then at the woman assisting me. Her gaze landed on me, full of resolve. “Just stay with me.”
“This is your conference.” I could fist pump right now, but I hadn’t meant to intrude this much on her weekend. She was technically working, after all.
“It’s all right, Aiden.”
I thanked Cynthia for her time, gathered my suitcase and Kate’s, and shouldered my tech bag while she finished up.
On the way to the elevator, she handed me a key, hesitant. “There’s two beds. Two queens.”
Damn. “All right.”
Still. Progress was progress. We were talking. She hadn’t asked when we were going to sign the divorce papers. I was making progress whether I was back in her bed or not.

Bed of Nails {a review}

Oh reader friends....If you are a fan of rockstar romances, then head over to Amazon and one click Bed of Nails now! I think you'll fall for Dane and Cami. Not to mention be curious about Ryder, Maddox, and Jake. Or maybe that's just me.

If you read Goodbye is a Second Chance, then you'll remember Dane and Cami. Dane is the drummer for the Sons of Sin, and Cami was hired on as their stylist. It was almost immediate that a close friendship was formed between the two. In Bed of Nails, we find out more about them and of course their backgrounds. This friends to lovers romance will have you swooning over Dane's protective nature, and having your heart broken for the situation that Cami has found herself in. But you'll also be cheering her on, as she overcomes and puts that ordeal to rest. You'll also get to witness the next book getting set up, and that one is going to be spectacular I can just tell. Anyway back to Dane and Cami. These two are obviously attracted to each other but are fighting it. Especially since Cami is in a relationship with Travis. Dane is struggling though, and he is realizing that he is going to need to step back from their friendship in order to save himself. It's all getting to be too much. But when it is time for Angel and Josephine's wedding, that is when things change. That is when the shit hits the fan, and everything is laid out. It is wonderful. It is what is needed. But there is still more to come after that, and it gets intense for a bit.

I can't lie, I enjoyed Bed of Nails more than Goodbye is a Second Chance. Maybe it's because I have a bit more history with the band and am familiar with the characters, or maybe it was just the storyline itself. No matter what though both books are fabulous. Highly recommend picking up the series. Cannot wait to see what happens in the next three books!

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts,
Laura

They say love is blind. But Dane and Cami are the ones with the vision problems, because everyone else can see what’s growing between these two. And it isn’t the friendship they keep claiming.

Dane
They say all drummers are a little crazy. And when it comes to my overprotective nature, my sisters, and pretty much everyone else, agrees that I parted company with rationality long ago. But I can't help it. I need to look out for the people I care about. And surprisingly, my best friend Cami, has made the top of that list. I'm trying to rein it in, but I know what her boyfriend is doing. When I catch him, I don't know if anyone will be able to stop my need to keep her safe.

Cami
They say most girls have a 'type'. My type? Trouble. I've gone through d-bag after d-bag in my dating life, but I can honestly say, none have been as bad as my current boyfriend Travis. But they say love takes work, right? So I'll keep trying to make things work until either Travis calls it quits or there's nothing left to fight for. I just have to figure out why I spend every night dreaming about my best friend, Dane. These two proclaim they're just friends loud and proud, despite what everyone around them thinks. Until suddenly, friendship isn't enough, and Dane and Cami see what's been right in front of them. But when Cami's troubles gets out of hand, will her fighting nature and Dane's protective streak be enough to protect her from Travis.
Warning: this book is for mature audiences only due to language to explicit situations. Trigger warnings due to domestic abuse should be noted.

Wild Card {a review}

Wild Card by Ashley Munoz is now available! This new adult sports romance will capture your attention. You'll find yourself wondering what is happening, how all this can occur without any questions, and you'll also witness two people fall in love.

In Wild Card we meet Mallory Shaw. She is a journalist at the college, and is working on a major story. Until her advisor scraps it last minute. Now she needs to find a new topic. And this new topic all but falls in her hand. When out with her friends, she overhears a conversation, which sparks curiosity. Then when she gets home, Mallory discovers that her stepsister has a card for this game. Mallory manages to attend the party, in place of her sister who has become ill, and it is at this party that she meets "Ethan". Except it isn't truly Ethan, it is Decker James filling in for him. Only Mallory doesn't know that. After all she's pretending to be her sister, so there's that. Things happen, Mallory begins to work this story, and she also sets up an arrangement with Decker. Can Mallory bring this game to light? Or will she be shut down before anything can happen? Also, can she ignore her attraction to Decker? Especially since his goal is to get close to her sister. Then there is the rivalry between Decker and Ethan. What's going on there? I could go on and on.

This book had my attention from the beginning. When Mallory's initial story was scrapped, it made me wonder what her advisor had against her. That character came across as an ass who was on a power trip. Then when Mallory heard what she did at the restaurant, that piqued my interest as well. What was the baseball team planning with this card game? And why were they discussing it in a public setting vs at their house? I was definitely drawn to Mallory and Decker. The connection they had was impressive, even with them trying to deny it. Should you read Wild Card, be prepared for slow burn. Although I will say it is worth it. Loved when Decker brought Mallory back to his home town, and introduced her to the family. That was revealing a part of himself that I don't think Decker had planned on showing. It was him being vulnerable, and hoping that Mallory would accept him through it all. As the story progressed, I found myself becoming curious about what was happening with Mallory's dad. What was his roll in all this? And when things were revealed? OH MY WORD. Did not see that coming. I absolutely loved Wild Card from start to finish. Yes there were times that I wanted to knock some sense into Mallory and Decker. These two just needed to talk openly, and without holding back, yet they couldn't. That was a bit frustrating. I will say that Decker's grand gesture made me oh so happy. He didn't need to do what he did, but I am so glad that he did. Then it was Mallory's turn, and oh my heart, yes. Just yes.

Loved the book. Loved the characters. Fantastic setting. Definitely want to go back and revisit it all. I am looking forward to reading King of Hearts when it releases in November.

If you enjoy romantic suspense, sports romance, slow burn, and the college setting, then I highly recommend picking up Wild Card. I think you'll enjoy it.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts,
Laura

This was it…I could see it in my editor’s eyes.

This was the last straw. One more misstep and I was going to lose my coveted internship.

I decided right there in my room, lime-flavored tortilla chips in hand, that I would do whatever it took to write the story of the century.

And I had my target in sight—the undefeated Devil’s baseball team. They were RFU royalty, and completely untouchable.

Their parties were impossible to get into unless you were handpicked, and I was not.

Even still, I had a solid plan.

I would not get caught, definitely not seduced, and absolutely wouldn’t die. That is until I was stopped and rendered totally speechless by a pair of mossy eyes.

He lured me in, close enough to feel the press of his mouth against my skin and the heat of his hands on my body. Undoubtedly, I was a sheep headed straight for the slaughter, which only proved true when he called my bluff.

With him holding all the cards for my future success, and in order to salvage what remained of my dream, I did the only thing I could.

I made a deal with a devil.
