Rory in a Kilt {a review}

Rory in a Kilt by Anna Durand is now live! Rory in a Kilt is the third and final book in The Ballachulish Trilogy, a brand-new series based on the first three books in the bestselling Hot Scots series, reborn and retold from the heroes' perspectives. Rory in a Kilt is coming soon in audio and will be narrated by Shane East.

A one night stand turned marriage of convenience? Say what? Yes, that is exactly how Rory in a Kilt begins. Rory had traveled to New Orleans, LA for a business trip. He was hoping to find a woman to spend the night with, but the bar he was at wasn't working out. That is until he was about to leave, and spotted a woman who was taking a selfie at the bar. Something about her grabbed his attention, and he had to meet her. Emery has recently been laid off from her job, and is taking a breather in New Orleans. She heads out in a couple days, and has zero plans to hook up with anyone. That is until Rory sits down next to her. A brief conversation leads to a night together, which leads to Rory sneaking out only to return to the room later and finding Emery still there. That leads to a weekend together, and a rather unusual marriage proposal.

I had been eagerly anticipating Rory's story since meeting him in Lachlan in a Kilt. I knew then that his story would be interesting, and that he wasn't this big grump that he was made out to be. Emery was the perfect person for him. She could see the real Rory begging to be released, and she made it her mission to do that. Except Rory was being non-cooperative and keeping secrets. I loved watching these two get to know each other, and seeing their relationship progress. Yes, Rory was keeping her at arms distance, but when he revealed the "why" it kind of made sense. I enjoyed this story from the beginning to the end. Were there parts that I had wish were a little different? Well yeah, but that's just the story playing out a little different in my head. I also wish the big dramatic moment had been a bit more drawn out. Perhaps a bit more groveling, pining, and build up to the reunion. But again, that just goes to how my brain was building the story. Looking back, and understanding Rory a bit better, I can see why that moment played out the way it did.

I loved the Ballachulish series, and getting to know the MacTaggart clan. Highly recommend the trilogy.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts,
Laura

Rory MacTaggart—uptight lawyer by day, steamy seducer by night.

One night in New Orleans changed my life. But is it for better or worse? The instant I see Emery Granger, I need to possess her. A one-night stand should've been the end of it. Except I can't quite let her go yet.

A marriage of convenience is the best I can offer.

For reasons I can't fathom, Emery agrees to marry me for money, knowing it will last only one year. She is the opposite of every woman I've ever known, and the opposite of me—cheerful, free-spirited, and compassionate. Maybe that's why I need to have her, though I will never love her.

All I know for certain is that living by my rules might destroy us both.

Anna Durand is a bestselling, multi-award-winning author of contemporary and paranormal romance. Her books have earned bestseller status on every major retailer and wonderful reviews from readers around the world. But that's the boring spiel. Here are some really cool things you want to know about Anna!

Born on Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, Anna grew up moving here, there, and everywhere thanks to her dad's job as an instructor pilot. She's lived in Texas (twice), Mississippi, California (twice), Michigan (twice), and Alaska--and now Ohio.

As for her writing, Anna has always made up stories in her head, but she didn't write them down until her teen years. Those first awful books went into the trash can a few years later, though she learned a lot from those stories. Eventually, she would pen her first romance novel, the paranormal romance Willpower, and she's never looked back since.

Aidan in a Kilt {a review}

Aidan in a Kilt by Anna Durand is now available! This is the second book in the Ballachulish Trilogy, and Aidan's story is a quick, fun read.

After witnessing how Lachlan found his happily ever after, Aidan decided he too was going to head to America to find his lady love. He was going to do things the same as Lachlan, and surely the same results would follow. Right? Shortly after arriving to the club, Aidan sees a beautiful red head. Moments later, Aidan is mistaken for a male dancer that the bachelorette party has hired. Aidan is about to go with it, until he fully understands what is happening. As all that is happening, Aidan manages to snag a few moments with Calli, the red head who caught his attention. She's managed to roll her ankle, and Aidan convinces her to have a drink with him so they can just talk. One thing leads to another, and there is instant attraction between the two. The lust is strong, and Aidan is convinced Calli is the woman for him. He's already decided that Calli will be his bride. Calli wants nothing to do with this plan. What happens next is Aidan being invited to the wedding reception, and then a trip to the UP of Michigan where Aidan does his best to get Calli to fall for him. Obviously more happens during that trip, but that's where I'll stop my little recap.

When I began Aidan's story, I wasn't certain what to think. Here we had Aidan who was trying to follow in Lachlan's steps, but at the same time he was also keeping some things close to his chest. There were secrets to be revealed. Plus it didn't seem as though Aidan was being genuine in his search. He was copying Lachlan almost to a T. Now don't take that to mean that I didn't enjoy the story, because I did. While I didn't have the connection to Aidan that I would have liked, I loved Calli. She was relatable for me. She too has her secrets, but those were being kept more so out of fear. Calli was doing what she could to live her life. I really enjoyed watching Aidan sweep her off her feet. I also enjoyed how Calli pushed back and had no issue putting Aidan in his place. You could feel the emotions between the two. You could feel the tension. Then there were the steamy moments, and dang they were steamy. When the big dramatic moment happened, I may have teared up a little bit. I"m a sap, what can I say. Then when it was time for the grand gesture, and final push toward the HEA, I was all in. These two characters held me captive, and I loved every moment of it. I cannot wait for Rory's story! Bless the woman that he falls for, because he is going to be a lot. I can just tell. His story is going to be a doozy.

Loved the story. Recommend the book. Heck, I recommend the trilogy. I do want to go read Wicked in a Kilt, which is Calli's version of the story. So I'll need to find time to do that.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts,
Laura

Aidan MacTaggart is wickedly hot and on the hunt for a wife.

I've come to America with a mission and a plan--find the woman of my dreams by going to the same underground club where my older brother, Lachlan, met his wife. My plan might have some flaws. But they don't call me "Don Juan" MacTaggart for nothing. The lasses love me, and I know I can find my soul mate in Chicago.

Calli Douglas is everything I could want in a woman. She's bonnie, sexy, clever, and sweet. But she's also terrified of love and refuses to let me win her heart.

My solution? Follow her home to Michigan. Seduce her. And somehow, convince Calli to love me. We both have issues standing between us, but that will not stop me. Somehow, I will find my happy ending with the American lass who swears she can never love me.

Lachlan in a Kilt {a review}

Lachlan in a Kilt is the brand new book from Anna Durand, and it is the kick off to her brand new Ballachulish Trilogy! And let me tell you, this book is full of romance, steam, groveling, and you get a HEA at the end.

When the story begins, we find Lachlan attending a club that is meant as a place for casual hookups. I know. Not exactly the setting you'd think we'd be in, but go with it. All Lachlan can think about though is Erica, his new temporary neighbor. So imagine his surprise when he sees her sitting at the bar. Erica immediately assumes Lachlan is someone else (the man she was supposed to be meeting). That being said, she is drawn to him, and he captivates her. The next day, Lachlan and Erica officially meet, and Erica assumes that Lachlan is stalking her. She doesn't realize that he is her new, temporary, neighbor. Lachlan is in America for only a month while his friend is back in Scotland staying at his house on vacation. Lachlan is attracted to Erica, and he cannot get her off his mind. So he convinces her to have a month long relationship. The only rule is that they can share no personal information. Seems simple right? Well this proves to be anything but.

Lachlan in a Kilt was a pretty decent story. I will say that it seemed a bit heavier on the steamy scenes than the story, but hey every once in a while those types of books can be appreciated. Now that's not to say that there wasn't a story going on, because there was. Erica clearly had things she was going through with Presley (her ex), and Lachlan was dealing with a divorce that kept stalling. Both of them needed to get through that, but it was proving that they both needed some assistance. I loved the bits of Gaelic that were thrown in throughout the story. I loved how Rory was helping Lachlan not only with his divorce, but with Erica's issues, and eventually on winning Erica back. The point of conflict was good, and I'm glad that it wasn't handled quickly. Sometimes it seems that the hero or heroine forgive too quickly, and things are just glossed over. That wasn't the case in this book. So I appreciated that. The reunion was wonderful and brought us back full circle. And can I just say, I loved Erica's dog. I have a thing for Goldens and oh this pooch! Such a good boy. After finishing Lachlan in a Kilt, I am now eagerly anticipating Aiden's story. Is it July 27 yet? I can't wait to see all that he goes through on his journey towards an HEA.

If you enjoy steamier books, ones that feature love at first sight, and/or a rich hero, then go grab this book. I've also learned that while this story is told from Lachlan's viewpoint, Erica tells her side of the story in Dangerous in a Kilt!  So I'm going to need to check that out to see what that's all about.

Thank you for reading my thoughts,
Laura

Lachlan MacTaggart is hot, Scottish, and dangerous  to a woman's heart.

I'm done with love. My ex-wife made sure of that. When my American friend offers to swap houses with me for a month, I can't say no. Chicago sounds like the perfect place for a holiday, until I find out there's a sexy American lass living next door.

Erica Teague is bonnie, clever, and as wounded as I am. But I won't ask her why. All I need is Erica in my bed for four weeks, no strings, just a summer fling. We won't talk about our pasts, our lives, or anything except sex.

That's the plan. But the woman who's too young for me is determined to crawl under my skin and expose everything.

Lachlan in a Kilt is the first book in The Ballachulish Trilogy, a brand-new series based on the first three books in the bestselling Hot Scots series, reborn and retold from the heroes' perspectives. Lachlan in a Kilt is coming soon in audio and will be narrated by John Hartley.
