Offside with #55 by Piper Rayne {cover reveal}

Piper Rayne has revealed the cover for Offside with #55!

Releasing: May 31, 2022

Cover Design: Hang Le
Photographer: Wander Aguiar

The last thing any professional hockey player wants is to be the old man in the game. The guy who doesn't know when it's time to retire. Still, I can't bear the thought of leaving the game.

This past year I've reflected on all my regrets, and I told myself that once I retire it'll be the time to settle down and start a family. But this is where it gets tricky.

I think I've found her--my Mrs. Although she'll deny our connection to anyone who asks. We've been sleeping together casually and since I'm still playing hockey, I've let her get what she wants--me--whenever she wants.

After being told my career as a player is over, the owner of Florida Fury grants me a shot to stay in the game. A coaching position I didn't know I wanted until it was offered. The catch? He's also passing the family business down to his daughter.

Who's his daughter?

The woman who's been in and out of my bed for the past year. Which means the woman I intend to make my wife is now my new boss.

My Famous Frenemy by Piper Rayne {a review}

My Famous Frenemy by Piper Rayne is the sixth book in the Greene Family series, and it is all about Posey Greene and Gavin Price. This small town, slow burn romance just released on January 25, and I had the opportunity to read an advanced copy. Friends, this book was so good. Now maybe I'm a little biased because I am in love with the Greene family (the Bailey family too), so it takes a bit to find fault. So please keep that in mind as you read my thoughts.

If you are new to the Greene family series, then you may not know that Posey owns the local hair salon, and that is where this story opens. I can't say it's where it begins, because TECHINICALLY, Gavin and Posey's story began at the Greene Family Summer Bash. It was in that novella that Gavin ran Posey off the road. Posey though has known about Gavin Price for years. When she was younger, she had a major crush on him, and she dreamed of having a family like The Carters (which was the tv show he was on). So as this story opens, Posey is busy cutting hair, and the ladies who are in the salon are gossiping all about Gavin Price. All is going well until he walks in the door. Gavin is hoping that Posey can squeeze him in for a quick cut. It is then that the ladies begin working on fixing these two up. Suddenly Posey's schedule opens up. Gavin had plans though for showing up at her shop. He was going to ask her out, but his courage tanked when he saw the crowd. It finally happens though. He asks her out, and she agrees. However it is also that day that he finds out Posey's mom is running for Mayor. He can't ruin their first date by telling Posey he is also running. But that will all come out soon enough, and when it does, this slow burn romance becomes a hate to love romance. Can they put politics aside to get to their happily ever after? What will it take for them to come together? Gavin doesn't want to give up his dreams, and Posey doesn't want her mom to give up hers. So what will happen?

I said it before, and I'll say it again, I love the Greene family. I love Sunrise Bay. I LOVE THIS SERIES.

Gavin and Posey’s story was a bit of slow burn mixed with hate to love, and I’m here for it. There were times throughout the book where my heart cracked a bit. It wasn't a full break, but the cracks were forming. Especially when Gavin had this thought:

Hopefully, one day she'll find a guy who treats her as special as she is. Who worships her body, whispering how amazing she is. Someone to hold her hand as they stroll through downtown, showing her off because he's the lucky bastard who got her.

Too bad that guy won't be me.

Oh Gavin! My heart.

Then when I think these two are finally getting somewhere, Piper Rayne threw another curve ball. They shared this steamy kiss, only to have Posey run! Which then brings on another banter session where Gavin mentions Eli winning her.

"Win me? I had no idea I was like a stuffed animal in one of those claw games. Tell me, am I just hanging out on top or am I wedged between a stuffed pig and a stuffed bear?

Posey had me laughing with that line. But in a way she's right. Still though she KNEW what Gavin meant, she chose to go on the defensive.

Gavin was not backing down though. HE KNEW Posey was his forever person. He just had to wait for her feelings to catch up, or for her to finally stop driving this wedge between them. That wedge was really the mayoral race, and Posey's dedication to her Mom.

Their story really picks up steam (ahem) while they are at Northern Lights Retirement Center. That's right, they end up with Ethel, Dori, Midge, and the rest of the crew. That entire scene had me laughing out loud. I expected nothing less from that group. They definitely bring the comedic relief. It was that "one bed trope" scene that changed everything with their relationship.

Our gazes lock for a moment, and there's so much emotion between us that I could drown in it. If we don't make it, I'm walking away broken for sure.

Now as Posey and Gavin's relationship grew, Piper Rayne pulled us slightly off course. In the back of my head, I saw this coming. I did. I felt something major was about to occur. And when it did, my emotions were all over the place. On one hand it changed the outcome of a different storyline. On the other my head just went to all these "what if" scenarios. Piper Rayne wrecked me a bit with that side story, and I am still not certain how to process it. I am looking forward to seeing how it is resolved in the next couple of books.

Back to Gavin and Posey though. While that storyline did affect them, it wasn't directly about them. The scene at Truth or Dare Brewery has jealousy making another appearance. Except this time it is Gavin who is jealous, and with the push of the Greene siblings, he finally says enough is enough.

"I'm not sure how much longer I can do this."

"Do what?"

"I can't watch a guy flirt with you and do nothing about it. Do you know how badly I wanted to slam you against the wall and kiss the living shit out of you right in front of him?"

"I can't do it. I want to hold your hand in public. I want to kiss you whenever I want. I want Eli f-ing Easton to know you're mine."

After that dialogue took place, I thought things were improving. I thought they were headed the right way, and this relationship wasn't going to be in secret any longer. Yet Posey was still not putting herself first. She wasn't willing to take it public yet. She needed to have a different conversation first, and that was with Mom. But before that conversation could happen, a Greene family meeting had been called, and it was urgent.

Here comes the conflict friends. And hold your hats because it's a doozy. Gavin is hurt beyond belief and makes the choice to leave. He's headed to California to take care of a few things that need attending. That leaves Posey to figure things out. She needs to make some choices that aren't necessarily going to be easy.

"You're really that mad?"

"Yes, if you hadn't noticed, I am."

"I don't understand why."

"Because you're going to sabotage my happiness. Do you not see that? You know the mayoral race is important to me."

"But my mom..."

Before Gavin leaves town though, he makes a pit stop at Marla and Hank's home. He just wants to make sure Posey has someone in her corner, because she needs a shoulder. Marla's words to Gavin had me feeling the mom mode that she was in.

"I know I'm not your mom, but I'm going to tell you what I would tell my boys. Do not run away. What ever happened is not unfixable."

It was advice he needed to hear, but yet he pushed on, and went with his original plan. Thankfully we didn't have to wait long for a resolution to this conflict. And how everything concluded was what needed to happen. Of course this resolution also had Xander present. Xander has changed a lot over the course of the last couple books, and isn't for the better. His story, when it releases, is going take us on an emotional journey. I'm sure of it.

Before we get to Xander though, we get to go on vacation with the entire Greene family. I already know this book is going to be full of shenanigans. Especially if Ethel is in attendance.

Absolutely loved My Famous Frenemy. I fell hard for Gavin and Posey, and their journey towards their happily ever after. Of course my heart also broke in the story for another reason, and it's still in mending mode. I don't think it will fully heal until Piper Rayne finishes that storyline. Oh, and the fact that a few Bailey's made frequent appearances had me smiling. Love seeing them outside of their series.

If you like small town romances that feature slow burn and hate to love, then you need to read My Famous Frenemy. This book is an easy read with a good amount of steam, and the story just holds your attention.

Go read the book, and come talk to me about it. Thank you for reading my thoughts on My Famous Frenemy.

Hollywood heartthrob, Gavin Price invaded our small town, Sunrise Bay, like he owned it.

Gavin was my biggest celebrity crush when I was young. He bears the charisma of an easygoing boy-next-door mixed with a rule-breaker personality both in person and on screen.

For a moment, I thought maybe my fairy godmother sent him to me.

Until he decided to run against my mother for mayor.

Everyone in our town knows my mom’s happiness comes before my own, so I take it as my personal mission to show him who really runs this town.

I just didn’t realize that being my mom’s right-hand woman would put me in such close proximity to him. Very quickly, I question whether he wants to win the mayoral race or me.

My Unexpected Surprise by Piper Rayne {a review}

My Unexpected Surprise is now available! This is the 5th, full length, book in the Greene Family series by Piper Rayne, and I was so ready to catch up with the family.

We return to Sunrise Bay where we find Fisher rushing to the hospital after Jed's daughter was injured. Once there he sees Allie for the first time in 5 months. She's back in town, and is now a nurse at the local hospital. While Fisher is happy to see her, he's also shocked. You see, Allie is pregnant. Five months pregnant. Fisher is about to find out that he's going to be a father. To say he's shocked is an understatement. One thing Fisher knows is that he's not meant to be a father, or have a family. Yet on the other hand, he's drawn to Allie, and can feel the draw towards her. What started off as one night together is changing their lives. Two babies are coming soon, and due to an incident at Allie's apartment, she is now living with Fisher. Can these two find a way to reconnect or will are they destined to co-parent?

I absolutely loved Fisher and Allie's story! It was such a wonderful addition to the Greene Family series. Of course the fact that it's the surprise pregnancy trope also had me loving it. Add in Fisher trying to go all alpha, and Allie shutting that down, just had me smiling like a fool. It was so good! Then there was the appearance of all those Bailey family members! Ahh it's so good to catch up with them. Oh, but then there is Ethel, Dori, and Midge. These ladies are hilarious, and up to their usual shenanigans. I am curious how Dori managed to pull off the apartment situation. It's awfully convenient how long it took for repairs to happen. Also, Ethel and Dori showing up at the doctors office when Fisher and Allie were there for their appointment? GOLD! These ladies are BOLD! That whole exchange had me laughing. (and shaking my head in disbelief.)

Towards the latter half of chapter 24 things happened, and they happened fast. The ending of that chapter, and a good portion of chapter 25 had me a gigantic mess. Now part of that is because I am an emotional reader, but the other part is because of personal experience. So everything that Allie was dealing with brought back memories of 9 years ago, and well tears happened. Everything that Allie and Fisher went through demonstrated their love for their children. Of course what Allie told Fisher before hand also had him flashing back to memories of his mom, and that just added to all the emotions.

This book showed how the grand plans you have drawn up in your head can be tossed out the window at any time. Allie was looking for her traditional fairy tale, and she had a fairy tale just not in the way she envisioned. Or as the authors wrote:

"Sometimes things aren't as perfect as you want them to be, but in the end, it doesn't mean they aren't your fairy tale."

My Unexpected Surprise hit me in the feels, and I loved every moment of it. I loved catching up with the family, seeing the Dori, Ethel, and Midge up to their antics, reconnecting with the Baileys, and of course getting the setup for a FUTURE book. Not the next in the series, but this book has to happen soon. Plus there was that bit about Rylan and Calista. So I'm looking forward to the upcoming Greene Family books!

If you like small town romances, and forced proximity, along with unexpected pregnancy stories, then please go check out My Unexpected Surprise. If you're new to the Greene Family series, no worries, you don't need to start at the beginning. They are all standalone stories, so you can jump in at any point.

Thank you for stopping by to read my thoughts on this latest Piper Rayne book.

Laura

I never thought of myself as dad material.
Until my one-night stand showed up in my small Alaskan town five months pregnant.

But I don’t shy away from responsibility. First, because I’m a Greene and not to boast but we’re kind of a big deal in Sunrise Bay. Second, I’m the Sheriff.

I couldn’t have predicted how protective I’d become for the safety of her and my unborn baby to the point of asking her to move in with me and be my roommate.

Just when I think I have the situation under control, another surprise knocks me over, but it only spurs me to double down.

I’ll be the first to admit, I didn’t think it through. Somewhere between the dinners, the TV show binging, the doctor appointments, and me walking in on her naked, lines blurred.

In what feels like warp speed, my bachelor for life status is in jeopardy and I’m fighting for the most important thing of all—my family.

A New Hockey Hotties Book! {cover reveal}

 Attention Hockey Romance fans...

March 8, 2022 there is a NEW ADDITION to the Hockey Hotties series from Piper Rayne!

Sneaking Around with #34 is a brother's best friend romance! THAT IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE TROPES! It's also sounding a little like a possible second chance romance too. I am so here for it. AHH I need it NOW!

I have a reputation for being tight-lipped. You learn quick when you become a professional hockey player to be guarded with the media, so I’ve worked hard to cover up the mistakes of my youth.

But when I’m traded to the Florida Fury, where my ex–best friend is the starting right wing, I’m forced to confront my past. Ford and I have a lot of history, especially when it comes to his little sister, Imogen.

My heart still lurches in my chest when I see her.

My hands want to reach out and touch her.

My mouth wants to keep apologizing.

She’s the only woman who ever made me want more. But she’s also the one who fell victim to my most regrettable decision.

I’m not a believer in fate, but I must be back in her world for a reason. I’ve fought for everything I’ve gotten and I’m not backing down from what I know will be the best thing in my life.

My Sister's Flirty Friend by Piper Rayne {a review}

Piper Rayne has just released My Sister's Flirty Friend! That's right, the FOURTH book in the Greene Family series is ready to be read. It is featuring one of my favorite tropes, best friend's sibling. I just adore this trope, and I adore the Greene family, so this is just a win in my book.

My Sister's Flirty Friend is the story between Jed and Molly. Molly happens to be best friends with Nikki (aka Jed's sister), and so there is a unspoken rule about not getting involved with a Greene. That being said, Jed and Molly have always flirted with each other. It's never gone past that though. That is until Jed finds out he's a dad. Then he goes seeking her out, and a secret relationship is formed. Meanwhile Molly is just trying to finish up her college degree, and she just found out that the child she was working with is moving, and therefore leaving the program. Now Molly has to find another child to work with to earn her speech language pathology degree. Not to mention, Ethel, Dory, and Midge have taken an interest in her love life. It's the last thing she wants, but here the trio is. Can her and Jed return to just being friends? Will she graduate? What about Jed's relationship with his daughter?

I have been loving the single parent trope lately. Add in that this one is a surprise, and Jed didn't even know about his daughter, I was even more intrigued. At the beginning of this book, Jed came across rather unfavorably in my mind. The things he was saying to Molly just didn't sit right with me. It wasn't okay. Not at all. Honestly, that almost had me setting the book to the side. But I stuck with it because of the fact that I knew Jed was hurting, he was angry, he just had his world knocked upside down, and also, he learned this behavior from his dad. Then there was how he treated his daughter when they returned to Alaska. It came across as him not wanting anything to do with her, and that just broke my heart. I loved when the Greene's started calling him out on it. Then when Ethel stepped in, and brought in Molly for assistance, I knew this story was about to shift. Molly taught Jed a lot regarding parenting, and about helping his daughter feel at home with him. This interaction between the two showed the potential for them as a couple.

I love this family. I love the setting. The storyline was good. Jed and Molly made their relationship work, and walked away with a happily ever after. They became a little family.

Because of my love for this family (and the setting), I suggest you read the entire Greene Family series. No, Jed's wasn't my favorite, but it was still good. And maybe you won't view Jed the same way I did.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts on My Sister's Flirty Friend.

Laura

I broke the cardinal rule and slept with my sister’s best friend.

Granted, I’d just found out that I was now a single father to a three-year-old little girl and was low on willpower.

It should also be noted that there’s been sexual tension between us for years. There’s no way it would be a surprise if anyone in our small town found out. That is if we were telling people, which we’re not.

We’re in agreement to keep our affair a secret, especially since neither one of us do relationships.

You’ve probably figured it out already, but things didn’t go as planned.

Faking It with #41 by Piper Rayne {a review}

I have been waiting for Ford's story ever since reading Countdown to a Kiss. The moment we met Ford in that novella, I was hooked and had to know his story. Well, it's time! Faking it with #41 is officially available, and I really enjoyed Ford's story.

As the title indicates, the fake dating trope is the set up for the book. Ford is suddenly a single dad, and quite honestly he's rocking it. He has made his daughter his priority, and his life has shifted because of it. Meanwhile back in New York, Ford's dad is still trying to get him to take over the company. Ford wants nothing to do with this, and is very vocal about it. Therefore his dad has decided to sell the company. BUT the person who is buying the company is very traditional, and may have a problem with the fact that Ford is a single parent. (Why? Who knows.) Enter the family PR person, Lena Boyd. Ford and Lena have to become engaged, and eventually marry for a short period of time. Just until the sale goes through. Neither Ford nor Lena wants to do this, but if Ford doesn't his dad fully expects him to quit hockey and take over the company. So he's stuck.

I thoroughly enjoyed Faking it with #41. Quite honestly it was my favorite of the series. Everything just felt right with the characters, and the story flowed nicely. I will say everything that happened at Christmas shattered me. That was definitely an emotional moment, and everything that happened after that was the build up to Lena and Ford's HEA. I loved the forced proximity, the fake dating, the hate to love, all of it. I loved that Ford was an amazing father, and really stepped into the role easily even though it was all so brand new. His daughter definitely changed him, and for the better. The only thing I didn't care for in the story was the whole sale of the company aspect. I just don't understand why that had to be the reason why Ford and Lena had to enter into this fake relationship. Yes, I know, Ford loves playing in the NHL and does not want to give that up. So that entire situation just didn't sit well with me. There could have easily been a different reason for the fake relationship. But whatever. I enjoyed the book, so it's not really that important.

If you are a hockey romance lover, or you enjoy the tropes I mentioned, give Faking it with #41 a read. I think you'll find yourself liking Ford and Lena.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts regarding this new release from Piper Rayne. I always enjoy their writing and the stories they tell. So go check out their books!

Laura

Fake.

Being the heir to Jacobs Enterprises, I’ve been around fake people my entire life. I promised myself a long time ago that I wouldn’t change for anyone. Which is the only reason I’m a professional hockey player who lives on the beach and does as he pleases without answering to anyone—except my father.

And now, my daughter.

Being a single dad wasn’t in the plan but after a one-night stand who took off after the baby was born, this is my reality.

My dad’s been harping on me to quit hockey and join the company for years and now that I’m a father, he’s only intensified his efforts. Until he makes me a deal I can’t refuse.

Insert Lena Boyd, the Jacobs’ family PR rep. She’s beautiful and intelligent and not at all the woman for me—ask anyone.

My dad needs us to act happily engaged and sell the idea that we’re in love. If we’re successful I won’t have to join the family legacy—ever. Of course, I agree.

That’s when things get complicated. I thought I had her all figured out until I found out there was more underneath her judgmental sneers and eye rolls. It feels like everything is coming together for the future I really want—with Lena—until my past ruins everything.

Is it December yet?

Is it December yet? Because that is when Piper Rayne is releasing My Unexpected Surprise.

My Unexpected Surprise is the fifth book in the Greene family series that is set in small town Alaska. From the brief blurb we've received, it is the surprise baby, unexpected parent trope. I'm here for it.

Also, if you've read the Greene Family series, which family member do you think this book is about? I have my guess, but I'll have to wait until December 14 to find out if I'm right or not.

My Unexpected Surprise is about a guy who finds out sometimes surprises come with ten fingers and ten toes.

Can you guess who?
