The Faker {a review}

Back in January I was scrolling through Instagram, and noticed a post about a new hockey romance series. To say I was intrigued would be an understatement. I immediately found myself on Amazon, and soon had the first three books in the series ordered.

That series was The Boston Hawks by Gina Azzi. I read The Sweet Talker, and was captivated. Then The Risk Taker came out, and and I fell further for these characters. Well now, now it's time for The Faker. Now I get Torsten and Rielle's story. Torsten grabbed my attention back in The Sweet Talker, and I couldn't get him off my mind. Rielle has been there since the beginning as well, but we didn't see a ton of her. Obviously in The Faker, it's all about these two.

I absolutely loved The Faker. From the beginning to the end, I did not want to put it down. There was a time, at the beginning of the book, where I was cringing (and literally saying eww no). Everything that happened after that altercation had me saying 'more please'. Torsten and Rielle are amazing together. The chemistry between them is undeniable. Should we talk about the steam? Oh friends, it is STEAMY.

A little over midway through the book, I found myself wanting to throttle Torsten and Rielle. Oh they were frustrating me. But in the end it was worth it. It just was.

Oh and yes, I totally had tears running down my cheeks a few times. I can't help it, I am an emotional person, and the feelings just hit hard sometimes. I won't tell you which scenes hit me, but there were a few. And that's all I will say about that.

If age gap romances are your thing, then read The Faker! (He's 37, she's 24)
If marriage of convenience is your trope, then read The Faker!
If millionaire/billionaire romances are your thing, then read The Faker!
Obviously if sports romance is a favorite, then read The Boston Hawks series.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts,

Please keep scrolling for a teaser of The Faker, an excerpt from the books, as well as links to add the series to your Goodreads and/or purchase the books.

BLURB

NHL hotshot Torsten Hansen is a lot of things. My husband shouldn't be one of them.

One emotional night slinging tequila shots and singing karaoke with the Hawks defenseman turns into more than I bargained for. A wicked hangover, an eviction notice, and a marriage proposal.

If Torsten and I wed, he can fulfill a promise to his grandmother and the debt I'm drowning in will be paid by his trust fund. It's a win-win, an easy and straightforward arrangement between friends.

So what if my friend has piercing blue eyes, a sensual smirk, and a body that occupies my dreams? It shouldn't matter that Torsten understands my past and makes me feel safe.

Except it does. Because if I give my heart to my husband, how will I survive our eventual divorce?

EXCERPT

I walk beside her, wondering if I’ve lost my damn mind.
What the hell was I thinking? Did I seriously just propose marriage to a woman I’ve spent a total of fifteen hours with, in group settings, over blueberry pancakes?
Yes, yes I did.
We’re quiet as we walk, both of us lost in our thoughts. Except mine swing from angry to needy to frustrated. I hate that Rielle questioned our friendship, as if I don’t give a shit about her. I know we aren’t close and don’t really know each other but does she seriously think I treat her the same way I treat puck bunnies? Her accusation stung and it shouldn’t have because it’s the perception I’ve spent years cultivating.
I just don’t like that it worked on her.
Then, there’s the fact that she’s obviously in some kind of trouble. Four hundred and seventy thousand dollars? Really? That’s not normal credit card or student loan debt. That’s serious, life-altering, damaging debt. Is someone trying to shake her down? Is that why she has bruises on her arm?
Jesus. I scrape a hand over my face, glancing at Rielle from the corner of my eye. She keeps her head straight ahead, her footsteps even, her shoulders pulled back. I couldn’t get a read on her if I was a fucking mind reader.
But marriage? No, I didn’t propose marriage. I proposed something different. A transaction. And she knows it.

My Almost Ex {a review}

If you know me, then you know that, at the start of the event that changed 2020, I discovered a series called The Baileys. It is by the writing duo Piper Rayne. Each book in the series follows a different sibling. All of them were amazing. There are also some bonus books where the whole crew is together, and those were just magical. Also, Grandma Dori is a hoot, oh how I love that lady. (Yes, I love a fictional character.)

About the time The Baileys was wrapping up, Piper Rayne announced a spin off called The Greenes. This is Ethel's family. Ethel is one of Dori's side kicks, and together they always bring a good time. I have read the novella My Twist of Fortune, and loved it. I have read My Beautiful Neighbor, and freaking adored it. Well now, now it is time for My Almost Ex.

My Almost Ex was teased at the end of My Beautiful Neighbor. So if you've read that book, then you know that Lucy suddenly appears at the brewery. We find out that Lucy is dealing with amnesia, and doesn't remember leaving Adam. Lucy fully believes they are still happily married. Well technically they are still married, they just aren't together.

This book is all about Adam and Lucy's journey toward reconnecting. Now obviously while that is the primary focus, we also have Lucy's amnesia to focus on, as well as her Mom. Lucy's Mom is clearly hiding something, and there is a reason she didn't want her daughter to return to town.

I read My Almost Ex in one day. It was so good, and I could not put it down. I want to tell you things I specifically enjoyed, but that has the potential to ruin the story for you. So all I will tell you is that you'll get your HEA. You'll also find out why Lucy left Adam. Oh, I can also tell you that the next book, My Vegas Groom, gets set up, and we know which family member's story is getting told next. WOO HOO. Is it May 18 yet?

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts,

Please scroll down a bit further to read the teaser for My Almost Ex. I've also included a link to add it to your "want to read" list on Goodreads, as well as a purchase link for Amazon. Oh, I have all the socials for Piper Rayne as well. Can't forget that!

In the middle of a crowded bar in our small Alaskan town, my estranged wife snuggles up to me as if we’re still a happy couple.

Don’t get me wrong, we were a happy couple—before she walked out on me a year ago. We were the high school sweethearts everyone thought were destined to be together forever. We thought so too, which is why we married shortly after graduation.

We had a good marriage. Until she left me without any real explanation.

Now, she’s back—and this is the real kicker—she has amnesia and thinks I’m still her husband. Technically I am, although the divorce papers are sitting at the lawyer’s office.

She’s desperate to remember her life in Sunrise Bay but I only want to find out why she left me. Once we conjure that memory up, it’s sayonara because there’s no second chances here. But as you probably already figured out, things didn’t go quite as I planned.

Weekly Wrap Up

Hello my friends! Welcome to a new week.

Last week was a low key sort of week for my family. The kids all had school. The teenager's asynchronous day changed from Mondays to Fridays so that threw our routine off kilter a bit. The 8 year old attended a birthday party at a bowling alley and had a blast. Meanwhile the 6 year old continues to rock his sight word lists that the teacher sends home. The 5 year old had her well child doctors appointment, and then that same day decided to cut her hair. She gave herself a mullet, and we had it fixed the next day. She now is sporting a cute little bob. As for me, well I had my first dose of the vaccine. Oh, and my husband is thinking about applying for a possible new job (at the same company).

Before we talk about the books I read last week, let's start by going over the stats.

Books Read: 7
Kindle Books: 7
Pages Read: 1,764

My favorite book of the week was The Faker by Gina Azzi. Hockey romance, need I say more? I will say picking a favorite this week was ROUGH. So rough. But ultimately hockey won out. Because hockey.

So what did I read? Well let's talk.
