Feels Like Love {a review}

I think by now most of you know that brother's best friend is one of my top 3 favorite tropes. So when I read the teaser for Feels Like Love, I was all in. I could not resist, and immediately dove in. Add in forced proximity, the single parent trope, and small town romance, and I'm done for.

In Feels Like Love, we have Wren and Bennett. They have known each other for years, and there is an attraction there. Yet neither speaks of it or acts on it. Especially since Bennett is Liam's best friend. When there is a flood at Bennett's home, Liam suggests that he stay with Wren. After all they are friends, and he is sure that River and Wren would love having him around. Plus Liam knows that Bennett will keep his eye on Wren. What Liam doesn't know is that 1) Bennett has been in love with Wren for years but will not act on it due to their friendship, 2) Wren asks Bennett to be her dating coach, and 3) a relationship blossoms. Liam is out of the loop, until the moment he isn't. Can a friendship survive? What about this new relationship? How will River react to the news?

I freaking adored, ADORED, Feels Like Love. All the tropes were handled wonderfully. You could feel the tension between Wren and Bennett. You could see Wren doing her best to move on with her life through dating others. You could see how it pained Bennett for her to be doing as such. But would could also feel the connection between Bennett and Wren. You could see the bond building. You could feel the love that was in this home. Then there is the relationship that Bennett has with River (Wren's son). That was ever so special, and precious. Loved all of that. Then there is the big dramatic moment that happens, and oh my heart. I couldn't take it. My heart hurt for River, for Wren, for Bennett, for Liam. Then add in the other storyline that was revealed, and well that just crushed me. At the end of the book, my heart was healing, and I was glad that Wren and Bennett received their HEA. They made it through the rough patches, and are on to the next season of their lives.

If you are like me, and enjoy the tropes I mentioned above, then please go grab Feels Like Love. Chances are high that you'll fall for these characters like I did. And yes, I will be continuing on with the Alondra Valley series. Do I know when the next book is coming? Nope. But I will be keeping my eyes open for it.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts,
Laura

I'm secretly in love with my best friend's little sister.

So, I do what any good friend would—avoid her.
At least, until my house floods, and my best friend suggests I move in with Wren.

Resisting her has never been easy.
But when Wren convinces me to be her dating coach, it’s impossible.

The more we "practice," the harder I fall for her and her amazing son.
The more I start to believe what we have is real.

It feels like love, but is it worth risking my friendship with Wren and her brother to know if she feels the same?

Vicious Union {a review}

First things first...LOOK AT THIS GORGEOUS BOOK COVER! Absolutely stunning.

Now that we've looked at that stunning cover, let's talk about the book. Now I am new to Jocelyne Soto's writing, and let me tell you, I AM HOOKED. If you are looking for an easy to read story, with some steam, and some suspense, then you are going to want to grab Vicious Union. Yes, it is the start of the new Flor de Muertos series, but believe me, you'll be hooked.

In Vicious Union, we have Serena and Leo. Serena recently had a relationship end, and her best friend Aria suggests they take a girls trip to Vegas. It is just what they both need, and the trip is planned. After a day of drinking by the pool, the girls head back to their room. Except they've consumed more than they should have and are having difficulty finding their room. It is during this time that they meet Leo and Santos. The guys help the girls find their room, and get them settled before heading on their way. During all of this, Leo and Serena had an instant connection. There was a pull, and neither could get over it. Later at the club, the girls again run into Leo and Santos. Aria invites them to the table where they all talk, and drink.  Shortly there after, Leo and Serena leave to go grab a bite to eat at a secret pizzeria. The attraction is building, and soon they find themselves not wanting to be away from each other. Never mind the fact that Leo is there on a job for his father, and so that is where his focus should be. Instead it is on this beautiful woman. One thing leads to another, and the night before Serena flies out, the two end up getting married. But they don't realize that right away, as the night is a bit fuzzy. What happens next is a couple going their separate ways, not knowing where each other live, or even their last names. The weekend was just supposed to be that, a weekend away. It is after returning to Austin that the suspense element kicks in, and things really ramp up.

I gave this book 4.5 stars on Goodreads. It was phenomenal, and I cannot wait to continue on and find out what happens with this cast of characters. I love a good Vegas wedding. I love the opposites attract aspect of a story. Add in some suspense, and I'm hooked. There was something about the way Jocelyne wrote this story that had it captivate me. The story flowed wonderfully, and I could not put it down. I loved the friendship between Aria and Serena. I loved how passionate Serena was about her job, and how she put her foot down about it. I loved how protective Leo was. I loved the family dynamics between Leo, his sisters, and their father. I don't approve of anything Leo's father does, but it was a nice addition to the storyline. Plus it really set the stage for the next book. Characters are wonderful, settings are so good, and the plot just grabbed hold and didn't let go of me.

If you are someone who typically reads organized crime romances (that is such a strange statement to write out), go grab Vicious Union. Chances are high that once you start reading the book, you won't be able to put it down. And then you'll find yourself wondering when the next book is coming out. Oh wait, maybe that's just me.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts,
Laura

The son of the most dangerous Kingpin in Mexico.

The heir to the throne.

The man that individuals fear the most, next to my father.

According to my father those are things that I should be proud of.

I should be proud of my heritage and wear it on my back with honor.

I’ll honor my heritage but I will not honor the path that is set out for me.

The life that my father lives is not for me.

I will do anything in my power to walk away from that life, and that apparently includes getting married in Vegas after a night of drinking.

She’s beautiful, everything that I have ever wanted, but I can’t have her.

Not with the life that I live, not with the blood I have on my hands.

Calling All Boston Hawks Fans!

If you know me, then you know that I have been a fan of the Boston Hawks since January 2021. I have loved each book that has been released, and have eagerly anticipated all of them.

So today, I get to share with you the cover AND the teaser of The Trailblazer with you! And friends, The Trailblazer is a SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE! Just hand it over now! Seriously.

That is one gorgeous man on the cover! And can we talk about that teaser? Oooh, I am going to love this story, I can just tell.

Is it November 11th yet?

I always knew I’d marry my first everything, Declan Yaeger, the Southern boy with Irish roots. That was before he became my first heartbreak, a NHL superstar with a playboy reputation, I no longer recognize.

The summer he left our small, Tennessee town, to pursue his hockey dream is the summer my life changed. That was seven years ago, before he became a defenseman for the Boston Hawks. Before I became a hardened, desperate woman, trying to survive.

To protect my grandfather's legacy, I agree to marry my oldest childhood friend, Henry. But when I enter the Church on my wedding day, the grey eyes piercing mine aren’t my fiancés.

They belong to Declan, who shows up with an offer of his own. One I can’t refuse even though my heart knows better than to accept.

Will my marriage to Declan heal the broken between us? Or are we destined to repeat the mistakes of our past?

Tell Me You Want Me {a review}

I just read my first book from Willow Winters, and friends, I WILL be reading more!
Tell Me You Want Me is a workplace romance, and it I think you may enjoy it.

In Tell Me You Want Me, we have Suzette and Adrian. Adrian just bought the company that Suzette works for, and he is in the process of restructuring everything. Layoffs are happening, and there is rumor of a merger with another company. But before the layoffs start, there is a meeting. And at that meeting, you can feel the moment when Suzette and Adrian make eye contact for the first time. It is intense. Shortly after that moment is when things at the company are getting shaken up. Suzette is going to fight for her team tooth and nail. Before that can happen though, she and Adrian begin a little "after 6pm" tryst. The attraction between the two is strong, but Suzette still is worried about her job, and that of her coworkers. Nothing Adrian can say is putting her at ease. Can Suzette keep her job (and that of her team) as well as grow this relationship with Adrian? Or is it all destined to fall apart?

I had mixed thoughts about Tell Me You Want Me. One one hand I really enjoyed Suzette and Adrian as a couple. The chemistry was strong, and the steamy moments were fogging up the windows. I liked how they were able to keep their tryst to "after 6pm". Before then it was business as usual, after that was their time together.  They had that boundary set. As I said in my Goodreads mini review, I liked these two as a couple, but I struggled with Suzette. Everything for her, outside of the situation with Adrian, was about saving her job, and that of her coworkers. There was nothing else happening. So that made her a bit boring. Yes, it's a workplace romance, but we saw Adrian doing other things, and putting his out of office focus on those (granted they were business dealings, but it wasn't pertaining to the company that Suzette was working for). I wanted more of her life outside the office, and Adrian's bedroom. I struggled with that, and it definitely reflected in my rating. My rating by the way was 3.5 stars. Oh, and can we talk about that dramatic business moment that Adrian went through? LOVED THAT. From how it started, to the peak, to the conclusion, loved it.

Now the question comes of do I recommend Tell Me You Want Me. And honestly I don't know. If you're looking for a quick, steamy read? Then sure give it a go. If you're wanting a story that you feel connected to the characters? Then no I don't. I don't regret reading the book, not at all, it just didn't give me everything I wanted, so that makes it more difficult for me to suggest/recommend.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts,
Laura

I didn't get to where I am by being nice.

I'm the boss, the CEO, the owner of whatever I want. Right now, that includes every person in this building of the company I just bought.

I stop at nothing once I've decided I'm taking something.

And then she showed up... full of spitfire just for me, the man she's decided is her worst enemy.

Like I said, I stop at nothing once I've decided I'm taking something. This pretty little thing just moved to the top of my "must acquire" list.

Meet Willow

I started writing after having my little girl, Evie, December of 2015. All during my pregnancy with her I read. I only wanted to read romance novels and I read everything I could get my hands on. I would read a book a day -- sometimes two. In January I was staying up late with her and just thinking of all these stories. They came to me constantly. I finally sat down and just started writing. I always wanted to do it so I figured, why not?

I never thought I would reach this point of success to be honest. It's insane to me that I have connected with so many readers.

And I love each and every one of them for all of their support. I'll be honest, some days are HARD. I have my littles during the day and I write at night. Some days are just simply exhausting and then I hear from a reader and it motivates me to push through and keep writing. I couldn't be more grateful for this wonderful career.
