Windsor Academy by Laura Lee {a review}

If you've been around my blog since the beginning of 2021, then you know that I fell for a series called Folkestone Sins. Some might say I'm a bit obsessed with it, but whatever. If you've read it, then you know just how amazing it is! Reader friends, I just read another young adult/new adult rich kid series called Windsor Academy. And let me tell you, it was freaking fabulous! There's romance, there's drama, there's suspense, there's that little bit of mystery going on, and it just keeps your attention. I should also mention that you need to read these three books in order! The first two end in cliffhangers so you can't just jump in.

Quick note: Laura Lee has said that this dark high school bully romance may contain triggers for sensitive readers. Due to the mature subject matter, it is recommended for readers 18+ only. So please keep that in mind should you choose to read the trilogy. If you need to know more information regarding those triggers, please send me a message on Facebook or Instagram!

Jasmine (Jazz) has just had her life turned upside down. Not only did her mother recently die due to a drive by shooting, but she was also separated from her little sister Bella. Bella went to live with her dad, and it turns out that Jasmine's dad has chosen to take her in.  Jazz doesn't want anything to do with him, but she does need a place to live. Shortly after arriving to the house (mansion), Jazz is told that she will be attending Windsor Academy, and that her father has gone to great lengths to get her accepted so late in the term. It is a privilege to attend this school, and she should remember that. The first day of school quickly approaches, and Jazz is left to sink or swim. What Jazz doesn't know is that there is a hierarchy at this school, and the royals are at the top of the ladder. Her sister (Peyton) just happens to be one of those royals, and she is determined to make life hell for Jazz. Which means her cohorts are going to do the same. And what the royals do, the student body does. Thankfully Jazz ends up meeting Ainsley, and these two hit it off, and immediately become friends. It appears taht Jazz has also made an impression on Kingston, and well since Peyton thinks he is hers (and he's one of the royals), she is none to thrilled about this. Peyton warned Jazz about staying away from Kingston! School drama and Peyton drama aside, there is other things happening. Kingston is working hard at uncovering some secrets that he believes his dad is holding, and Kingston is determined to take him down. What secrets are they? Something to do with his dad's business, and it isn't on the up and up, that's for certain. This entire trilogy focuses not only on the relationship between Jazz and Kingston, but also Jazz and Bella, Ainsley and Reed, and of course the entire situation with the dads. Shit is about to go down, and it's going to be intense.

So I fully admit that when I started reading Wicked Liars, I wasn't certain what I was getting myself into. I knew that it was a dark high school bully romance, and that the blurb sounded intriguing. I also knew that Jazz was moving into a house with a parent that didn't really want her. He even went so far as to change her last name! But there was nothing she could do about that until she was 18. Then there were the scenes with Peyton and her crew that just didn't sit quite right. Peyton definitely thinks highly of herself, and believes that Jazz is beneath her. Loved the friendship between Jazz and Ainsley. That felt authentic, and it was something that both characters definitely needed. The fact that Ainsley is Kingston's twin was just a bonus. The hierarchy scenes definitely fit into the same vibe as Folkestone Sins and the Royalty Crew duet. So it made me think of those books, and I think that made me fall even harder for Jazz, Ainsley, Kingston, Bentley, and Reed. Everything that happened in this trilogy had me unable to put my kindle down. I was stuck in this world that Laura Lee created, and I just had to know what happened next. Who was after Jazz? What were the dads up to? How was this all going to play out? What was Peyton's part in all of this? WHAT IS GOING ON? I had to know! And this curiosity led to me binge reading the series. I regret nothing. I am glad that Laura Lee wrapped up Jazz and Kingston's story nicely. There isn't any loose strings when it comes to them. She also set us up nicely for a book featuring Bentley. And that book is now one that I am eagerly anticipating. Thankfully I don't have to wait too long for Broken Playboy!

I am going to buy physical copies of Windsor Academy. I am. They can sit right next to my copies of Folkestone Sins and Royalty Crew. So knowing that info, it should be clear that I highly recommend the series. This contemporary romance will draw you in, and hold your attention from the first page to the last. It is just so good!

Thank you for reading my thoughts on the Windsor Academy series. I appreciate it.

Laura

Liars.

Every last one of them.

The kings and queens of my new high school.

The father and stepmother I never knew.

Each has more wealth and privilege than I could've ever imagined.

Each has a pile of wicked dirty secrets they'd do anything to protect.

These people have grown accustomed to getting what they want and what they want is to make my life a living hell.

Too bad for them, you can't break someone who's already broken.

Too bad for them, I won't give up without a fight.

Too bad for them, I'm going to make them pay...even if it's the last thing I do.

In a world filled with secrets, lies, and cruelty, only the strongest will survive.

I’m living proof of that.

But being left for dead has made me question everything I thought I knew.

I want to believe I have allies in these ruthless games, but the more truths I unravel, the more twisted and tangled the web becomes.

And the deeper I fall down the rabbit hole, the more determined I am to bring them down.

Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive...

Pretty, pretentious little liars.

I’m surrounded by them everywhere I turn.

But I’m learning not everything is as it seems.

The ones who I thought were my enemies have become my greatest allies. And the ones who I severely underestimated turned out to be much eviler than I could’ve ever imagined.

They say money can’t buy happiness. Well...I’m here to tell you, it can certainly broker a deal with a devil.

And the funny thing about dealing with devils? They always come to collect. Too bad for them, I’m going to put up one helluva fight.

I’m stronger.

I’m ready.

And I’m going to love watching them fall.

Peep this cover!

TAMING OF THE CREW by Xavier Neal is coming on October 28th!

This new adult, sports romance is set at Vlasta University in Vlasta, Wisconsin. If you are a fan of opposites attract, keep this one on your radar!

Oh, and if you're wondering what sport this sports romance falls into, it's hockey of course!

Now don't you worry, if you haven't read the previous four books in the Hockey Gods series, Taming of the Crew can be read as a standalone. Reading the other books just helps you know the other characters that will make appearances.

Once upon a time, the Vlasta Vipers hockey team was so incredible — on and off the ice — they were almost mythical.

All the other college athletes across the country wanted to be them.

All the chicks who glided into their gazes were excited to bang them.

Their reputation was that of Gods who wore skates instead of sandals.

And thanks to a certain center's constant leadership on the ice, they are true champions once again.

Captain Patrick Peck lives and breathes hockey, yet one glimpse at his head coach's loud-mouth, full of life niece who has just moved to Vlasta, and suddenly, he wants more.

More days of watching old TV shows and less days of listening to hockey podcasts.

More nights of hearing her scream his name and less nights of scheduling extra practices.

More memories out of the rink and less memories of only being loved in it.

Will this overly focused center be able to balance hockey and love, or will he be forced to abandon one for the other?

Turnover by Lisa Suzanne {a review}

Have you been reading Vegas Aces: the Quarterback? If not, you should be! Jack Dalton has turned out to be an amazing character. When I read the original Vegas Aces series that focused on Luke Dalton, I completely disliked Jack. Yet at the same time I knew that deep down he wasn't this guy. This was a front for deeper issues. Anyways, I highly recommend that you read both seasons of Vegas Aces.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, you HAVE to read this series in order. So in order to read (and understand) Turnover, you need to have read the previous three books. They are quick reads though, so you could easily binge read them. If you wanted to. As in my Timeout review, I am not going to recap the story. The blurb does a decent enough job, and I am just too worried about spoilers.

What can I even say about Turnover other than it was fantastic? I have continued to fall for Jack and Kate. Michelle continues to confuse the heck out of me, and I wonder what her issue is. Same with Savannah. I don't want either of these women to have redemption arcs, but I need to know what the heck they are thinking! What is their end goal? Turnover picks up at Jack and Michelle's wedding. If you read Timeout then you know how that ended, and the cliffhanger that we were left with. I loved the road trip. Loved the scene at the Wynn. But that scene at the house? OH MY WORD. What? I need Touchdown like NOW. I need to know how the book ends. What happens next with Jack? With JJ? With Kate? With Michelle? Seriously WHAT HAPPENS?!?  Lisa Suzanne is trying to kill me with these cliffhangers! I'm sucked in, and she has me anticipating each book in the series. Kudos to her!

If you are a fan of football romances then you need to read Vegas Aces: The Quarterback. Just trust me on that. I cannot recommend this series enough. I feel like I need to scream it louder.

Thank you for stopping by to read my random thoughts on Turnover. I greatly appreciate it. If you read this series, please let me know. I'd love to discuss it.

Laura

I’m in love with a man who is marrying somebody else. At least that’s what was supposed to happen when I was kicked out of the wedding last night by the bride’s father.

I find myself without a job, without a home, and without the pro football quarterback I’ve fallen for. The only thing left to do is head back to my parents’ place in Kansas as I give up every dream I’ve dared to have since I left it.

I’m just not sure I’m ready for the turnover.

TURNOVER is the fourth book in the VEGAS ACES: THE QUARTERBACK series. This series must be read in order.

If you are a hockey romance lover, then you need to go pre-order this one NOW!

Trust me.

And yes, I have placed my pre-order.

But everything was different now.

She was making her way up the ranks in her dream job, working as a publicist for the San Francisco Gold. Finally, her life was back on track.

Then she met Kaydon. He was new to the team—a power forward—and the moment she laid eyes on his sexy-as-sin body she’d dreamed about what that power might feel like in bed. But he was off-limits.

She worked for the team, and though she’d spent much of her life being bad, she couldn’t risk her job by jumping into a relationship that could easily get her fired.

Adventurous Love by Lea Coll {a review}

Adventurous Love by Lea Coll is now live!
Adventurous Love is an all new small town romance by author Lea Coll, set in her Mountain Haven Series. And oh if this book ever isn't appropriately titled!

Let's return to Telluride shall we?

In Adventurous Love we catch up with Henry Rigby. He is Gray's best friend, and these two are like brothers. So when Gray and Elle ask him to help out with their upcoming wedding, he naturally says yes. Enter Kelsey. She is Elle's childhood friend, and has been asked to be the Maid of Honor at the wedding. Kelsey cannot turn down the opportunity, and is excited to experience everything that Telluride has to offer during her two week stay. Shortly after arriving, Elle asks Kelsey if she'll work with Henry to make sure things go smoothly for the big day. As if Elle even needed to ask! Kelsey is looking forward to her time off from work, spending time with her friend, and exploring this community. There just happens to be some down time for Henry and Kelsey, so Henry decides to show Kelsey around and take her on some adventures. After all he is considering adding these services to the resort, so why not try it out with her?

I loved this story. I loved the forced proximity. I loved the instalove aspect. I loved the grand gesture after the big dramatic moments. And of course, I loved the happily ever after. Then there's all the adventures that Henry and Kelsey went on. SO MUCH FUN! So many memories were made, and I really think it helped our characters to bond. My favorite though might have been the snowball fight. These two are certainly competitive! Which makes reading their adventures so much more enjoyable. While reading Adventurous Love, I was a bit distracted by Piper Rigby. Every time she made an appearance (which wasn't often), or was talked about, I found myself wondering what her story was. Why is Piper the way she is? What is it that is affecting her so much that she's withdrawing from her family, and comes across as a bit standoff-ish? Yes, Kelsey nailed a few things on the head when she was explaining her viewpoint to Henry, but there's more. I can feel it. THANKFULLY Lea Coll tells me that Piper's story is next! So my answers are coming!

If you are looking for a small town, instalove story with some forced proximity, then go read Adventurous Love. I think you'll enjoy it. I know I did. It also has me curious about Telluride. Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts. I appreciate you stopping by. Happy reading.

Laura

~Kelsey~
I don't do small town, country living. The hustle and bustle of New York pumps through my veins. Still, when a dear friend invited me to stand up in her wedding, I decided to embrace all Colorado had to offer. I was expecting mountainous terrain and outdoor adventures. Instead, I found myself face to face with the ruggedly handsome Henry Rigby—a lumberjack fantasy come to life. It was supposed to be a short trip. Yet the time we spent together made New York seem farther and farther away...

~Henry~
As best man, I promised the groom I would show Kelsey a good time. I considered her one of my groomsmen responsibilities... until I saw her. Far from the high-maintenance New Yorker I expected, she was working that alluring girl next door look. Still, I had sworn off commitment and she had major trust issues. Feelings shouldn't have factored into our time together. But, the vulnerability beneath her steadfast independence called to me. And, for the first time in a long time, I found myself regretting I couldn't offer her the commitment she deserved.

King of Hearts COVER REVEAL!!

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗔𝘀𝗵𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗠𝘂𝗻𝗼𝘇 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀, 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝟮 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗲 𝗨𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀! 𝗗𝗼𝗻'𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲!

Failing out of college wasn’t on my dream board.

Neither was getting knocked up.

Just the same, here I am, ready to start another year at Rake Forge University, pregnant and currently homeless.

And it looks like I’m not the only one who’s returned.

Juan Hernandez, my sister’s best friend, saunters through campus with that granite jaw and those raven strands of hair kissing his brow, his whiskey eyes searing everyone to ash.

I’ve avoided him for months, but the second he sees me, the jig is up.

The first thing he does is steal my lips in a ravishing kiss.

A punishment.

The second thing he does is rescue me from sleeping in my car.

A lesson.

Living with him will never work, not with how brash his words are, how hot his constant stare is, or how he touches me.

His fingers brand my skin as if he owns me, and on some level, I know he wants to.

What he doesn’t know is that I belong to another man…and come my twenty-first birthday, I’ll return to him whether I want to or not.

October A to Z

Back in January I had these grand plans to participate in three reading challenges. I started off strong, and about midway through, it all just stopped. I stopped looking at the prompts. I stopped filling in the blanks on my blog, and honestly I deleted those pages all together. I just gave up as I was overwhelmed with everything.

Now here it is October, and I'm wanting to participate. So I figured why not just do October A to Z. Fill in each letter whether it is the title of the book, the author's first name, or the author's last name. Let's see how many letters I can complete! We all know Q, U, X, and Z are going to be the troublesome letters, but I have a good feeling.

Bookstacks and Golden Moms has a specific prompt for October, and I think I'll utilize that for a mini challenge. Looking at my calendar, this should be "easy" to fulfill since I have so many ARCs scheduled.

A book written by a new to you author

My "plan" as of right now is to update each week. That way I can visually see my progress, and know which letters are left to fulfill.

If you'd like to join in with me, please do so! You could even double up by working in the title and author, so it would knock out two letters.

Snipe by Mary Morano {a review}

It's that time my friends. Time for yet another new hockey romance book release. You know me, I'm not complaining. I love sports romance, and will read it any chance I can. You may recall me talking about the book Open Lanes. That was the first book in the Mooseheads Hockey series by Mary Morano. I loved it. So to say I have high hopes for Snipe would be an understatement. Let's head back to the college campus in Maine, and see what happens with Justin and Becca.

Oh, if you're wondering about tropes, I have info for you on that. We have surprise pregnancy, as well as found family. Snipe is also a slow burn, so if those are your jam, well then stay tuned.

Becca is from a small religious town a few hours away from campus. Her parents are quite strict, and to say they do not approve of her choice to attend college at Monroe University would be an understatement. They'd prefer that she remain at home where they can keep an eye on her, and convince her that she needs to marry her boyfriend from high school. Becca is an independent woman though, and she's not putting up with it. All is fine in her world, until the day that Justin walks into the classroom, and sits down right next to her. Moments later they find out that they are going to be teamed up all semester, and the info they have to tell each other is a sensitive topic for Becca. These two set up a time to meet, and of course Justin is running late. He may say he likes to be on time, but right now things just are not working in his favor. Thankfully he has a little down time before the hockey season starts, and he needs to focus on his assignments. Yet there is something about Becca that is making that a bit difficult. One thing leads to another, and these two end up spending a night together after a party. Neither remembers much about what happened, but Becca's about to find out that while protection may have been used, it wasn't effective.

I am loving this series from Mary Morano! I am falling for the characters and the setting. She has hooked me in. In Snipe, I found myself angry on Becca's behalf. Not only with Justin and the BS he put her through, but also with her roommate and her parents. Heck I'm still angry with her parents. UGH. Justin is a sweetheart. This man is compassionate, friendly, outgoing, and not to mention focused. When he loves, he loves hard. How everything played out in this book was interesting to read. From their initial introduction, to the meet up in the library, to what happened at the party, and life after that party, it was all so good. I also really enjoyed how Justin's teammates, and coach, was by his side when he needed them the most. He had that support system, and that was much needed. Loved the book, loved the characters, loved the dramatic moment, all of it. Highly recommend Snipe.

Can I just tell you one nit picky thing that I didn't like? Heck it isn't even about the content of the book. Nope. It's the cover. I'm sorry, but this cover is a big miss for me. I don't know if it is the smile, the back ground, or the tattoos, it just doesn't feel right for this book. Yes, I mean Justin's nickname is Tattoo, and I'm not disliking the tattoos on the model, but they look fake. Ugh, I'm sorry. Like I said, it has nothing to do with the story, but still.

Thank you for taking time to read my thoughts on Snipe. If you are a fan of college romances that feature an athlete, then I hope that you'll give the Mooseheads Hockey series a try.

Laura

Serious relationships are NOT meant for College... At least that’s what Justin believes. As a member of the Mooseheads Hockey Team, Justin is known for three things: Hats, Parties, and giving the best advice around.  As he starts his junior year of college at Monroe University, he knows it will be the best one yet. Life is going great for Justin, until Becca stumbles her way in. When she tells him she’s pregnant after a drunken one night stand that neither can fully remember, he’s left with a choice. Will he step up and be the man they need him to be, or will he run away like his own parents did?

This story is told from both Justin and Becca’s POV. It involves themed college parties, lots of different hats, and some interesting ideas for baby gifts.

The Mooseheads Hockey Series is a set of standalone hockey romance books. They can be read separately, but may be better enjoyed in order.
